2703 Dometic fridge noise and operation

Before we went on our 2nd outing, we plugged in the fridge about 5 days earlier. As we were loading, it did not appear as cold as I thought it should be. Using a quick reading thermometer, it only measured 24 degrees F in the freezer and 46 in the fridge. We still loaded up and left.

I let it run on propane while traveling and checked the temps when we arrived and had 2-3 in the freezer and seemed to be working ok. Except, you hear a whining noise coming from it whenever it is running.

This Dometic fridge has 2 vent panels on the outside and the noise appears to be coming from the upper access panel. My older 2000 Rockwood only had one panel and NEVER made any noise or gave me any questionable operation.

Is this noise normal?

Yes it is. There are two fans in the top panel for cooling. They whine and mine have been replaced twice and the problem still exists. The fans are just noisy.

Yep. They are noisy. Some people are replacing with more quiet PC fans.

My 2001 Topaz fridge was quiet because it had a roof vent and didn't need a fan to push out the hot air but my new rv has a fridge in a slide which requires a fan or two to push the air out of the top vent. It's to bad the fans they install have to be so noisy.

I hadn't realized till you said this that the 2703 doesn't have the roof vent like my older TT. Makes sense why they have fans on it. Disappointing.

It must be because your fridge is in a slide.
