3 hrs old, anybody else have this???

Bought my 2016 2604ws, drove it 3 hrs to my sisters place. When I go to open the slide it makes a bad noise. Upon investigation we find this....look at the pictures, sliced my tire and copper piece dragged across tire. I am told it may need adjustment or wrong tire size??
Any body have this happen?

What's odd is how it happened now, but didn't happen on the trip from the plant to the dealer.

Looks like there might be a recall on this. To me it is just too close to the tire. I would get it back to the dealer asap.

Looks like it needs a lift kit, heaver springs or smaller tire. My vote would be for the first two.

I recall another post with a similar issue, I think also with a FR product. I do two other RV forums so it could have been there also.

Sorry this happened but I doubt the dealer did anything to cause this issue. It probably was this way from day one. It probably started at the factory but the tow company having a different towing set up might not have been as noticeable. At any rate as others have said back to the dealer ASAP but watch that tire it can easily blow out now.

Tire size match the sticker? Some torsion axles end have different settin's on the ride height...not adjusable...possible wrong axles.....The pad that did the damage, I'd trim that edge so that you can get to where-ever and not runn'in a spare or finish that tire off on route

Are the tires the right size? Is your cargo weight within the limits of what the trailer is rated for? Is the cargo loaded so as to be evenly distributed in the trailer. If you are using a WD hitch is it adjusted properly? If the tires and cargo aren't causing the issue then you need what is called "more travel" between the tire and trailer. A lift kit is probably what needs to be installed. I had the same issue with my trailer. Torsion axles but too little travel. FR sent the lift kit free of charge and the dealer billed them for the install. I bought my TT used and the previous owners did nothing about the travel issue. When I bought it there was a good bit of wear through the coroplast and into the under flooring. After the lift kit install I have experienced no issues.

Holy crap! I don't think you should tow like that at all - looks like the slide mounting ear is ready to slice the tire on any bump. Definitely something wrong with the way the trailer was built.

If you have the Torflex axles the angle can be changed which will change the distance of the tires from the body.

Looking at the Torflex literature, it looks like the 'start angle' can be selected between 45 degrees down to 22.5 degrees up but I think they have to be ordered that way. The only way I can see that being changed is by the way the square hole is cast into the spindle arm and the two are welded together so I don't see that being altered except by changing the whole arm assembly. If there were, and you had anything above 45down, I think the demand for lift kits would go way down.

BTW: The start angle of the particular axles you have is printed on the label on the axle - its after 'SA:' on the line above the large-font numbers. Mine is '22DT' which stands for 22 down (and they're almost 0 degrees sitting in the driveway with no food, water or clothing).

Maybe the OP had the wrong axles installed at the factory... wouldn't be the first time.

Roaddiva: assuming you do have Torflex axles, which is kinda what it looks like judging by the square axle tube, what is the start angle printed on the label? That could be a good place to start.

Looking at the second picture, although its kinda hard to judge how far below the center of the wheel that axle tube is, it almost looks like those could be 22 degree UP axles... the spindles look like they're quite a bit above the axle tube centerline. If its a new trailer, I doubt that's from overloading.

I will try to get somebody to look at the label on the axle, I am not there right now...
Wow, so now it is looking like possibly the axle's...I will call and see when I can get in for them to look at it but if it is the axle's I don't have time to wait for the fix (long story) I hope they will work with me. I have not used the trailer yet at all, so maybe work they will work with me on another trailer?

Is your camper loaded for travel?
Have you weighed what you put in?
You may be overloaded.

Wrong tire size is also possible but unlikely.
Check the tire pressure placard on the camper wall.
