30 amp fuse labeled H.T.

Does anyone know what the 30 amp fuse that is labeled "H.T." in the power distribution center. I have a Rockwood 2902SS

Heated Tanks ??

Strange, I don't have that on mine. My heated tank 30 amp fuse is located in an access under the shower.

Could be. when I was pulling the fuses and the light on the switch went out it was the fuse for the overhead light. I then took the switch out and it has 3 terminals, one terminal I assume is the the light in the switch, the other 2 are for the tank heaters. Time to take out the Fluke multimeter. Forest River did not install heaters on the exposed section of pipes and elbows so I have a 10" section of 1 1/2" pipe and elbow and a 3 1-2" elbow that are not heated. So in a nut shell I want to make sure the the current load will be ok when I add the heaters. The switch is rated for 20 amps, seems low.

I found with Forest River that the same campers built on the same day will have subtle differences. No such thing as standard with forest river

Warm and toasty and just in time for winter, the Hot Toddy is a classic hot drink.


Ingredients:

• 1 oz brandy, whiskey or rum
• 1 Tbsp honey
• 1/4 lemon
• 1 cup hot water
• 1 tea bag

Preparation:

1. Coat the bottom of a mug or an Irish coffee glass with honey.
2. Add the liquor and the juice of the lemon quarter.
3. On the side, heat water in a tea kettle and add the tea bag to make hot tea.
4. Pour the steaming tea into the glass and stir.

Kinda looks like to me that you got the volumes reversed on the liquor and water.

on 12v power.
Aren't fuses 12v dc and breakers 120v ac??

The heaters are 12 volts so they can be used while driving down the road. I would not use them on battery power alone, you would have dead batteries in no time.

To answer your question KyDan, not always. Generally, yes, but older houses had round screw-in fuses generally in 60 amp boxes for their 110 vAC power. Also, there is a 120v refrigerator fuse under the outside cover, then under a smaller cover, two glass fuses- one for 120v, and one for 12v. Mine blew twice, due to a bad ground connection. All is well now. if your fridge ever stops working on shore power, that's probably it. The A.C. unit at the ceiling has one hidden inside, 120v only, as well. Randy

OK, so I got curious and went out to my Rockwood fiver. Our panels are of the same make/model but breakers and fuses are a little different.

I don't even HAVE a 30 Amp fuse or anything labeled "HT"
BTW, that hand writing is so bad, are you sure it says "HT"? Looks like PT or maybe PL?

I did an experiment: Turned on the tank heaters, turned off the 120 AC main breaker, tank heater indicator light stayed on, therefore my tank heaters are 12 vdc. The reason has been stated already, so you can drive down the road with the heaters on.

And I have no idea which fuse the tanks are on, or even if the fuse is in the panel. My landing gear fuse isn't, so maybe on my fiver the tank fuse is under the floor someplace.

I guess all I have done is help confirm what it is not, not much towards what it is.

Others may have a different opinion, but except for the dedicated galley tank dump valve, there should be no water past the shutoff valve to heat.


The reason the dedicated galley elbow requires a heater in addition to the tank is there is water in the pipe up to the shutoff all the time.

In the gray and black tanks the shutoffs are right AT the tank and the water behind the valve is heated.

Time to get the "thermal calculator" out again. If you keep the water in the tank at 50 degrees, and the 3 foot long gray water drain pipe is exposed to 20 degrees, Fahrenheit, will it freeze? Will it freeze hard enough to cause a pipe to break? I don't know the answer, but I can say from experience, as long as it makes it above freezing during the day hours, I've never worried about tanks freezing. I have had my fresh water supply line freeze several times, but never worried about tanks. Just my "two cents".

The pipes upstream (water in them) of the dump are not heated and exposed, on a cold day they would freeze. The cost of the heater bands is low so if I get bored I will add the extra heaters. Forest River put heaters on the tanks and the pipe stub coming out of the tanks, they should have installed heaters all the way to the dump valves. UltraHeat, Inc. - Tank Heaters
