The 8289 is not a rear kitchen. it is a mid kitchen with an island for the sink. The 8282 is also mid kitchen but no island. Instead it has a rolling table/island. The 8289 has a fixed free standing table in the slide. The 8282 has the couch along te back whereas the 8289 has the recliners. The big difference for mewas the 8289 has two gray tanks, one for the galley and one for the bath where the 8282 has only one gray tank, so 76 gals total vs 38.

hehe I figured with OC doing the Mod it was gong to be a BIT more involved than "just" double sided tape

dcheatwood -I've had no problems with the TV latch so far. I do hold it down with my hand after the first time I released it and thought the whole thing was going to fly up into the cabinets.

Love your solution for the toilet paper holder. Will have to look for one of those.

Hey BamaBob,

How do you find the towing with the F150 ecoboost? I'm looking at an 8282 and also have the ecoboost but with the 5.5 box.

Cheers

We just signed the papers on the Flagstaff cousin as well. As soon as we signed the papers it went straight into storage. Going to be a long winter. Did your island come with a wood or Corian top? We upgraded to the diamond package. We were expecting a Cotian counter top but got wood. Just wondering.

That's a change for 2014. My 2014 came with the wood table top but I insisted they switch it back to Corian. It took 2 months but we got it done. After upgrading I expected the Corian as well. Thought the wood top looked awful.

Thanks. Not only does the wood top look bad, I am sure it will dinged up real easy. I am going to talk to our dealer Monday. This is our second camper from them and they are usually good to work with. We will see what happens.

According to the updated Forest River website, the 8282WS pin weight just gained 140lbs (from 1184lbs to 1324lbs)...

They are lying dogs.. My Vcross is listed at 1100 lbs pin weight, and weighed in at 2200. And I sure didn't put 1000 lbs of stuff in the front.

Maybe someone here can give you a sense of the REAL pin weight on your unit, from real weights.

Wow. Hope its a change in the hitch or frame and not a misprint for the previous models. I know mine is lighter than the 1450# wildcat previous rig.

Don't think it's a misprint. They also changed the rated pin weight on the Flagstaff cousin. I believe this floor plan is the only one that had a change in pin weight as I studied them prior to purchase.

pin weight increase

Joe Mazz
Well that 8282 pin weight increase is incredibly disappointing if confirmed. We had pretty much settled on the 8282 but that pin weight is getting to be too much. I am surprised that Forest river has SEVERAL models they claim as half ton towable with dry pin weights 1475 and above. Actual weight is going to be 300+ more -What half ton can take that and be within specs? certainly not mine.
The new (just released) model 8285IKS (I believe) with the island sink was about 1180 lb so maybe we look at that one.
We may have to stay with the 2 slide 8280 rear kitchen.
if anyone gets this confirmed I would be very interested in the explanation from FR. I wonder if the existing 2014 stock out in the field has a pin weight change also or they altered design going forward??

Looks like fresh tank is a little larger. That's a good thing.

I don't think a larger freshwater tank can explain the extra pin weight. The freshwater tank on the 8282 is all the way in the rear of the unit.

Yeah, I just noticed it was larger than mine. Definitely nothing to do with the pin increase.

Are ANY of these actual down the road loaded pin weights? My earlier point is that the published pin weights are frequently NOT accurate; The REAL down the road weights are heavier (usually) or lighter (rarely).

It would be nice if some folks out here with your candidate camper could verify what their pin weights really are.

In my case (with a totally differ camper) my pin weight is SO radically different, that I am not sure how the heck FR determined it. They sure did not weigh the pin weight like they do the overall unit to make the yellow sticker. I have begun to compensate by taking stuff out of the front of the camper and putting it in the back on the rack that has a 250lb capacity. I even removed the spare tire from that rack and put it under the unit on a BAL under frame mount. Prior to the start of the season, I will weigh things again to see what I accomplished.

Caveat Emptor.
