8289 ws 13.5 A/C
Hi All
Husband and I are picking up our new 2016 model 8289ws on Thursday. Did not realize that we got the 13.5 a/c instead of 15.0. Any comments or concerns on the smaller unit is appreciated. Do you think it is possible to upgrade?
Thanks
Kelly

You can upgrade. Better yet, get the second a/c if you do not have it.

We have 1 15 k btu AC and on hot days it can just keep up, partially due to a Brown trailer. Going to Nashville in a week, will see how manageable it is there as opposed to forested camps we usually are in.

We have the 15K in living room and second 13.5k in bedroom. If ypu are in full sun the brown color soaks up the heat. Wouldn't be without both.

Yes, you can upgrade, but cannot add the second A/C i the bedroom with 30A Service.
Hind sight being 20/20, the 50A option should have been selected if the RV was a build to specs.

Wow, I think I am having some buyers remorse before we have even picked up the rig. I think we should've got a 50 amp. You can't change it now right? That would be something that had to be done at the factory?

For us the cheapest way to add a second AC to our 30A trailer was to run a second 30A service. But that means two shore power cords and it will not work everywhere.

It can be done but changing to a 50A service now would be expensive, new internal, wiring, new shore power cord new converter, etc. Just guessing around $1000.

it's a balancing act with power usage with 1 ac and 30 amp. Hope all works out for you

Was that something you did yourself? Is the second a/c hooked directly to the 2nd 30 amp service? Installed simply for that one a/c unit? I wonder by doing that if it would affect the warranty in any way?
Thanks

Kelly. Don't get discouraged. If you can't get the second a/c there are ways to "manage" the heat and still have lots of good times in your new unit.
Shade is a lifesaver. Try to get shady spots when checking into a campground.
Allow for some air circulation while towing by cracking a couple of windows or roof vent so outside air can get in.
Plan your vacations/camping trips for fall or spring for cooler climate. Or go to mountainous areas.
I've had to go out and hose down my roof and sunny wall with water hose to get unit cooled down after on the road all day. After dark the a/c was able to chill us out.
This was all on my previous fiver, wildcat,. My new rockwood has 2 a/c s. You can do this.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement. We love the trailer, I just wish we would've put a little more thought into 30 vs 50

Our 8289 had one 15k A/C. We traveled all over the USA, summertime mostly, and only one time was the A/C not enough. It was 104 in OK City. A/C did catch up over night and was good for the next 3 days there, all over 102 degrees. Take a box fan to move air around in the unit. It really helps. We also use a box fan outside to fend off mosquitoes and also helps to cool us off.

We have one 15 and on days over about 85 it will run pretty much non stop, stays cool inside but has to run all the time. Dealer should be able to upgrade without a problem. If I was buying a new unit I would definitely get dual ac units.

When we were looking for some reason I read about having two A/C units, so I told my Camping World contact about our needs and that's what came on our unit. They have separate thermostats and we usually use the main unit in the living room during the day and the other in the bedroom at night. Working with units in stock your salesman prefers to sell what he has in stock, and with the options that come with it. Unlike buying a vehicle there isn't much in the way of option lists. I say that because even with the brouchurs on line, there are things that you can have added that don't appear in the sales catalog.

Add a 2nd a/c and put it on its own circuit. Then you would plug your 30amp up and a 20amp for the 2nd ac when needed. It should work fine.

Just up grade now to the 15,000btu and you will probably be just fine. I had a pretty go size V-Lite that had only one 15000 on it and did fine. Yes at times you may run in to high heat. Later RJD

Right now I am having trouble getting a call back from the dealer. They are about 40 miles from us and we are supposed to pick out up tomorrow.
