8289ws pendant lights

hi
can anyone explain why the two pendant lights above the island sink unit can swivel into different positions? is there any reason for this?
with the thumb screws can you lengthen or shorten them?
i can't imagine you would alter the position of them for travel.
thanks
ali

Thats so you can direct the light only over the sink, you travel with them hanging straight down. I never use the swivel...

I didn't realize they could even swivel.

We have the same unit. I don't think the lights are intended to swivel per se, the pivot is more so there to allow the lights to hang straight down in spite of the sloped ceiling. The thumb screw should be tight. If it comes loose it can strip (ask me how I know ; )

They swivel because of the sloped ceiling so they can be plumb and they are different lengths so they can hang at the same height.
