8289ws slide will not work

Our new 8289WS dinette slide will not work. The motor tries to run and one side tries to come out. Looking under the bar that connects both ends tries to turn but the end closest to the front does not move and you can hear the motor clutch slip. The motor moves the end at the back but slips because the slide is not moving at the front end. Tried the hand crank but no luck, a few cranks and can't turn it any more. I did put allot of pressure on the hand crank but any more I would be afraid to break something. 300 + miles from home, anybody got any ideas. Must have had all the slides out and back in several times in the last week, I'm at a loss.

Canceled our 30 day+ trip. After four days in Lubbock Tx finely got an RV service shop to look at it. They took the underbelly apart, took pictures and sent them off to forest river. Forest River would send them the what was needed, no telling how long it would take before we were back on the road. What to do in Lubbock TX for who knows how long. RV and fridg fully loaded we decided to head for home and get it fixed there.
We are home now, RV all unloaded and waiting till Tuesday (Monday is a holiday) to try and get someone in our area to work on it. So Frustrating at this point. We are not happy, Dogs not happy and granddaughter not happy.

That is a big statement, it could just be a shear pin that is broke and some members here can do repairs....

If you have a Liepert electric slide, look at page 12, item 4 is the cross shaft between both sides, there is rotating gears at both ends, maybe shear pin is broken at one end.

We had to leave ours about a week, but that was only because they couldn't get to it right away. I think there was 3 hours of labor and a small part.

Very disheartening to have to cancel a trip with a new trailer.....by reading your post and the fact you drove home, tells me its a darn good thing the slide stopped working when it was closed...imagine if you were getting ready to pull up camp and that happened to you in the open position? The option to drive it home wouldn't be there.

Got the RV under cover and for the first time I was able to get under there and have a look for myself. First off I was told by the guy at dealer where we got the unit that the slides were maintenance free, WRONG! After seeing all the corrosion under there doesn't take rocket science to figure it needs maintenance. The rack and pinion that drives the non powered end of the slide is rusted as are the gears. The gear that's on the powered end closest to the back of the RV has several teeth missing, see picture. This lets the powered end try to move the slide but the non powered end cannot move, the slide binds and the clutch slips. If I can get FR to send me that gear I can fix this myself and not have to wait for who knows how long to fix something that looks like it would take an hour or so.

Fonzie, called FR, they are sending me a new gear pack no charge. Should be back on the road soon. Dealers around here are of little help. DIY if you can for best results.

I received the gear pack from FR late this afternoon. First contact with FR was on the 5/28, gear pack was shipped out on 5/30, received today 6/03. Very good service from FR, UPS ground I guess ok from Goshen to Tx. I'll be installing it on Thursday and headed to a campground first part of next week, maybe south Texas. Our month long trip to the north west is on hold for now. I'll post to this thread when I finish the repair with pictures.
