8289WS Weight

Finally got the 8289WS across the scales.

Here are the numbers that I'm seeing.

Placard states GVW of 9564 Lbs. Axles are rated at 4K each, or 8000 Lbs. That would mean a 1564 Lb Pin Weight.

Across the scales, I have an axle weight of 7200 Lbs. (800 Lbs under Max Axle Weight)

I have a Pin weight of 1740 Lbs. (176 Lbs over the placard Pin Weight)

Total trailer weight is 8940 Lbs. (624 Lbs under the GVW)

The heavy Pin Weight is due primarily the way we have loaded the RV, and is on no consequence with regards to the tow vehicle since I pull with a 3500 RAM Cab & Chassis. I intentionally skewed the weight to the Pin to reduce Axle Weight.

My question is, do you think I will cause excessive strain on the Pin with the higher Pin Weight?

I don't think so - that's only 19% pin weight according to my math. (1740/8940=19.4%). That's still relatively low for fifth wheels. (Average is 20-25% supposedly, but most units that I see actual weights aren't living up that standard.)

Of course, I don't know beans about frames- so ymmv.

If memory serves I believe the advertised pin weight in 2012/2013 was in the area of 1750 empty. I don't have mine any longer so I can't check on the placard. That pin weight is coming in just a few pounds under what I had.

The advertised pin weight of the 2012-13 8289WS was 1524lbs.
It slimmed down (theoretically) to 1337 for 2014.
Not sure how, but it did. Almost all the Rockwood Light 5ers had weight changes for 2014.

My 2013 weighed in at 8720# loaded with a 1720# tongue weight and 7000# on the axles and I consider mine very lightly loaded but most of it is on the front. so I think you are fine with the numbers you have. Very similar.

Well if they kept the same axles (4K each) they must have reduces the GVW to have lightened the Pin Weight.

I'm beginning to think that it's all a trick done with mirrors anyway.

But in all seriousness, I feared that we'd overloaded, having come from a 40' Tri-Axle Toy Hauler that I never hesitated to throw things in.

Now we just need to hold the line on additions. OBTW, I did not tell the DW that we were 800 under on the axles. Just that we were where we needed to be.
