So, about this 2016 Windjammer 3006wk.
With that said, I'm currently looking at Bike rack options.
I understand the rear bumper is not very strong. I've seen those bolt on support brackets for the rear bumper, but how much does that realy help?
I also need to raise the spare tire so its bottom is at bumper height or more. Any ideas other than just a piece of steel plate, and drill holes, and bolt it to original bracket spots, and then add a couple bolts up higher for a new mount height? I feel like increasing the moment of inertia on that tire (by putting it prob 6" higher up) then I should add those bumper brackets.
I still don't think I should add a bike rack to the rear.
The only one I've found that I can put on the front of a V nose possibly is the Jackit rack that mounts right on the tongue jack holes around the jack upper post.
If I then use the angle piece going forward, is it high enough for the tires to clear the bed of a F 150?
My two boys are young so their bikes wouldnt even fit a full adult rack anyway, so prob 2 bike style is enough for several more years.
Some use the truck bed and I might still, but I have a tounna (sp??) and sometimes carry my tools in the bed covered. so would prefer to mount elsewhere. Ideas?
I read a review on the Jack it rack, that says if the tongue jack is over 22" tall, then it wont fit. Havnt picked up the camper yet, so cant measure it yet.
thoughts?

I will take a picture of our bike rack tomorrow and post it. It is on the rear bumper. I got it from Amazon. It just bolts on beside the spare tire. It holds my hubby's bike fine and nice and snug.

Thanks. I didn’t think these bumpers were strong enough for bikes flopping around.
Yes a picture would be super. Do you have the Amazon item and could link it?

How we carry bikes. Once on the rack, ropes used to cinch in place, so they don't move.

Like what weight rating? Trailer is about 7400 dry. 990 TW listed.
So if the GVWR is right at 9000. And they figure 1000 on the truck does that mean you pretty much have 4000 lb axles?
|
Our 2016 3006wk had 4k lbs axles. Inspect the welds for the axles before you buy. We had ours replaced during the warranty when cracked welds were found. We had the 3006wk for about 3 years and it was a great TT for us, a family of 4 traveling all over the lower 48 for a couple of years.

Where are these welds? At the ends of the “tube part” towards the back of the hub? Or where the spring brackets mount?

Axle supports cracked - Help please

Full disclosure, it was our 1st travel trailer and this issue is where I learned about CCC. We stopped carrying a full load of water after that.

Thanks. I’ll look closely.
Also. As for over weight. On this model the GVWR is right at 9000.
They expect 1000 lb on the tongue.
So if you were over weight (in the case of this 3006wk model, you had to be putting over 1500 lb in the trailer or under weighting the tongue by a lot.
I never carry any water. That’s unnecessary weight.

Thanks for the bike rack length. That model definitely puts a lot of twisting stress on that bumper. At least you just have one bike.
I’m also wondering about some type of flat tray I could
Mount to that rear bumper just to carry things like the awning rug etc on. Something that would sit down flat and flush on the bumper just to hold things I don’t wanna put inside. Sort of like a hitch cargo carrier. But no hitch part. Just the tray.
Haven’t found anything quite like what I’m after but I’ll keep looking.
Could lay a kids bike on that and strap it down.

That looks nice. But my tonneau cover comes almost over the side rails so there’s nothing to mount to if the cover is covering the bed. Would be nice if could mount them above the covered bed. But not sure how that’s be doable.

Are those stake pockets accessible?
They look so in the photo.
Lots of rail/rack options using those.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Don’t think I posted a picture of my truck. I’ll double check. I don’t even think mine has open stake pockets.
