Anyone towing with a Chevy 2500 6L -? (2002)

We just bought an 8,000 lb Rockwood Ultralite. It will mostly be pulled by a Ford F350 diesel (our son's truck) - so, no problem.

BUT - we also have a Chevy 2500, 6L engine, 2002, with a new transmission. For the times when our son's truck is unavailable, we're wondering if the 2500 would work.

We live in the Sierra mountains, so any trip will involve some steep uphill.

Does anyone have any experience with this truck, pulling an 8,000 lb trailer?

The truck will do it but I think it will be quite the struggle for that engine in the mountains. But if you have patience and don't over work the truck you will make it fine.

I tow with a 6.0 liter with 4.10 rear end, I pull roughly 8,500 lbs. Pulls fine in Upstate New York, don't know about the mountains though

we live in Sask. Canada, we owned a 2000 Chev 2500 6.0l and at that time our 5er had a dry weight of 8,000lbs, pulled through the Rockies and all the way down to Cal. through lots of mountains, never had any problems, lots of time we would be passing Dodge & Ford and Chev. deisels.
