Awning resting on slide out

When we put out the awning on our Rockwood ultralite, the awning rests on the corners of the slideout. It sure looks like it won' t take long to rip the awning.

Anone else have this problem? Should the awning be adjusted so it sits higher and does not make contact with the slide?

When we picked up the unit I pointed this out and they said no problem. I will have the unit there next week and want to be sure the issue gets fixed if necessary.

Thanks.

I am nowhere near the tt so cannot right now but the awning physically rests on the edge of the slideout.

Is the awning at it's maximum height?

you don't want the awning to have any contact with the slide corners, or anything else. It won't take long and it will be worn or cut through.

Mine does the same thing on my lacrosse 329bht, I just cut a pool noodle and slipped it over the edge to giv the awning some buffer from the slideout, My best friend has a Keystone with the exact same issue and solution.

I am a new owner and cannot answer that. Hopefully the dealer can adjust and raise it if needed since since this is how it was on delivery. I am just trying to be prepared in case they say its not a problem. I dont want to accept their answer if they are not giving me the right advice.

Thanks for all the replies. I will push the dealer to adjust it as it should be.

Coincidentally I had thought if an adjustment would not fix it I would use a noodle.

Thanks again.

johnsent, I think it's a common problem, especially when there is a slideout directly under the awning.
Here's a pic of my Lexi, slide out and awning out. Have to put the awning out before I take the slide out, out, otherwise, because of the angles involved with the awning arms it won't come out.
I have to keep that side of the awning at it's highest position (side toward the front in the pic.
Stupid way to set it up, but unless I get a shorter length for the back half of the Lexi, and a small one for the slideout, there's no other way.
Just have to be aware of the position of the awning to prevent rips.

I saw this on a recent campout. Guy had taken some 1 inch PVC pipe and a couple of tees and fabled a length of pipe with feet, using the tees, which he added to top of slide out. His issue was the awning was developing water pockets, he ran the awning out, then the slide, then added the length of pipe to support the awning upward to hold it off the slide out and remove any pockets for water to pond in.

I have the same problem with my Surveyor. The awning over the slide prevents me from dumping one corner to vent water off and the chaffing is also bothersome. This design will be on my next RV checklist to avoid. I bought hot water pipe insulation and slide on the edge of the slide to help prevent excessive chafe wear.

In my case it is NOT a topper but the primary awning.

By their design they are going to (Rub/Lay) on the slideout! When the wind currents lift/release the awning material it is going to (rub/wear) add Rain and the whole scenario just gets worse! Placing a slide under a (Patio Awning) is a Space Robber! The (Tilt for runoff function) is Useless when the awning is this close! Some people run the slide In and tilt the awning if or when it Rains,What fun that must be? You can retract your awning (Some) from Full deployment to give additional clearance,BUT if it Rains you will have a Heak of a Water problem! Pool noodle (Rub Strip) for sure just pain to (Place/Remove) everytime! Youroo!!

If you did not have a pool noodle ???

Some models from some company's do have this issue, the only thing I see people do is to put swimming noddle's over the slide to protect the awning.

Sorry for the issue but it is the floor plan that creates this issue, but in the end Happy Camping

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Went to Camping World Harrisburg this morning to have a few minor items taken care of and it appears the awning cannot be adjusted. Using the 2 easiest suggestions, I have a pool noodle and will pick up a pipe wrap. Both seem easy so I plan to try each and see if one is easier/more effective than the other.

On a side note, within 15 minutes of my arrival at CW Harrisburg, a tech was with me taking care of the minor items and within less than an hour I was back on the road heading home. Overall very good experience.

Thanks again.
