Backup camera question

Hi- Taking delivery of a Rockwood 2606WS Ultra Light in May. It has rear camera prep for a Furrion. Do all Furrion models work or is there a specific model I need to buy? (This has been asked before but Furrion has updated its models so previous recommendations are no longer available.)

Also, any preference as to screen size? 4.3" vs. 5" vs. 7". Obviously, bigger is better but you lose more view out the windshield with bigger screens. What's the right balance of screen size vs. viewability out the front?

Thanks!

Furion displays have very low resolution so the 7” should be better. If you mount it up high in front of the existing mirror you wouldn’t be blocking anything. After all, the only reason you look up there is to view the rear view mirror, which would now be a rear view electronic display.

I have a 10” iPad mounted in front of the mirror and it works great.

I bought the FOS48TA-BL with my TT. It has the 4.3" screen. It looks like this model is no longer available.

Looks like the FOS43TASF is the one now with the 4.3" screen.

Personally, I wouldn't want a bigger screen. The 4.3" does fine for us.

Congrats on the new TT!

Here's a deal on one

We have the observation one and love it driving down the road. Makes it so easier to change lanes and what's going on back there. You would not believe how close people follow you. I would spend the [emoji383] and get that one. It is well with it

Sorry it is well with it. We have the 4.3 and for us it works great. I have mounted on the dash board so just I can see easier with a glance. Just personal preference.

Furrion has a backup camera and an observation camera. The former is for that express purpose: backing up. The latter is for continuous viewing during all conditions: backing up, driving, whatever. I believe the signal strength and resolution is better for the observation.

The primary utility for me is viewing during driving, not for backing up. So, I'd highly recommend getting the observation version.

I'd also go with the observation. The 4.3" works fine for us. I've started connecting it directly to my mirror with elastic straps. That puts it out of the way, and where I would naturally be looking for rear view.

This is a great subject. I have used in the past, a Garmin BC30 and had it wired to 12 volts rather than the backup lights. So it worked when I turned on marker lights.

When we ordered our F250 we included a backup camera for the our 2888ws, it displays on the dash screen, but since I had to have the wiring installed with prices upwards of $1200, (included TPMS truck integrated)I did not. I do not know if it has observation capability. If it does have observation I still may have the cam installed.

Any thoughts on this?

I'll also suggest the observation camera. Does a nice job while driving. You just have to remember to turn on the running lights in order for the camera to be powered.

Thanks for your input all. I split the size difference and went with the Furrion 5" observation camera.

Just an FYI. The prep is basically the mounting bracket and power cord. On my 2019 Wildwood, the power comes from the running lights. If truck lights are not on, neither is power to the unit.

I would go 4.3 yes, smaller and resolution not up to par. Just less space to take up on windshield. Screen just fine for glancing at.

Congrats on the new TT!

Here's a deal on one

That is a GREAT deal! But wonder why they charge $25 shipping, seems a little much for the size of the package. But still over $100 cheaper than the next retailer at $390.

It does appear to be a great deal if it is in fact the FOS43TASF but when you look at the picture of the box, it shows the FOS48TA-BL which I believe is the older model. I'll find out shortly because I just ordered one. The shipping was 12.28 to Ohio

That is a good price.
We have the observation model and have nothing but good to say about it.

Well.... It's here all ready and it is indeed the FOS43TASF so as it turns out it is a very good deal so if you need one this is the best deal that I could find

Where did it ship from? I'm in IL and when I go to checkout, the lowest shipping cost is $22.60. Seems high compared to the price you paid.

**UPDATE: They tell me there is a $7 surcharge for residential deliveries. Seems strange to charge a resident more than a business.

It shipped from Elkhart,In. to Hamilton,Ohio. I did have it shipped to my work though so I didn't have to worry about the porch pirates. I have heard of FedEx charging more for residential deliveries.

How did you mount the iPad?
