I think the factory grill is one of the worst grills I've ever cooked on.

I use a Weber. They hold up well. Used it for 2 years then fulltiming for 2 more years-still going strong. If you don't want to tie into your trailer connection get a small propane tank. I think it holds about 1 1/2 gallons and last a very long time. Tank is also light weight and easy to store.

I have seen the same model grill that came with my Vibe 268rks on the shelf at camping world. Would need the bumper mount also if plan to have it attached to camper. It is not the best grill, obviously; however, it works plenty well to supplement the outside kitchen and is cheap enough to replace periodically for the convenience of the mounted feature.

Agree with the many who said the one that comes with the camper is not very good. We have the original and use it 1 to 2 times a week. It is rusted out and I am going to buy a Stainless Steel one to replace it, (that is 8 months of use). I will go for one that has a little better burner setup also. The original worked OK for me but there were a lot of hot and cold spots so I had to constantly move what ever I was cooking around.

My Windjammer included the hang-on grill. I use it with one key modification. I've changed the lightweight grate for an anodized aluminum plate/grid. The plates are from a company called GrillGrates (www.grillgrate.com). It helps the grill hold heat and gives a much better cooking surface. I had to trim for an exact fit, but the plates can be used on top of an existing grate.

I trimmed the shape of the plates to match the curve of the existing grate with a power jigsaw. Then I used a grinder to trim the corners of the grids to fit under the closed lid. With these plates, I've found the grill to be useful for steaks, fish, burgers and hot dogs, chicken and grilled vegetables.

One thing that may be the other major problem is that the grill is fairly high on the side of the camper. If I weren't tall I might find it inconvenient to use there.

Want a secret about GrillGrates?

Those who have the pellet smokers...........any brand..........get you some of these GrillGrates, and turn your smoker up to 500 degrees, and you can now grill steaks, chops, and burgers just like with a charcoal grill, but the smoky taste is out of this world.

X 3 and I'm not a fan of gas grills ya might just as well stick in a oven same results. I use a Colman Charcoal grill and I also cook most of the meal out doors. I have had this grill for over 10 years never bought any replacement parts and very well made. Nice thing about it, coverts to a fire place when done cooking Later RJD

That's a nice idea, the only downside is you are throwing $50 at grill that is going to rust out on you quicker than it should. Yours looks fairly clean, I am going to guess and say you haven't used it much or you clean it and put it away right after you use it. Or maybe I just got one with a defective paint job. I had been leaving mine out overnight, then clean and put it away the next day and it is rusting out. When I buy a new stainless grill I will probably get one of those plates for it. Thanks for the info.

Just my $0.02, but as previously mentioned, the grilles that come with the trailers from the manufacturer are not of the best quality. I personally am not too happy about allowing my grille to hang off the side of my family's new camper and run the risk of excessive heat damaging the fiberglass skin. We paid the extra money and got a Weber Q-series grille, removed the regulator that came with the Weber, and connected it right to the LP Gas line from the camper. Works like a charm, and with a 6' gas hose, we set up the grille on a 4' folding table and call it a day! Much more room to work and less chance of RV damage in the event of a grille fire.

In summary, if you enjoy cooking, and do it alot while camping, invest in a better quality grille that will give you years of use as opposed to the thin sheetmetal grille that comes with the trailer.
Happy camping!

I am on my third sidekick grill, Agree that they are not the high quality. However In using them for the last seven years. 409 cleans the side of the RV and their are no blemishes on my 5r.
