Battery Disconnect

I just received delivery today of my 2018 Windjammer, and in the nose, I noticed a switch "battery disconnect". What is this for, and what position should it be in normally, pushed in or pulled out?

This disconnects most all ( if not all )of the 12VDC items in the RV. This is used to prevent "always on" items like the CO/Propane detector from draining the battery when in storage. It needs to be on when using the unit, to charge the battery and when towing ( for break-away system). On some units the break-away system is wired direct to battery. This should have been covered by dealer during PDI. If this is your first RV you might want to look through the items in the library.

I usually don't trust factory battery disconnects. Too many rv's are hardwired to have something on in the rv with the switch off which results in a dead battery.

Wire one yourself. A marine switch is very durable and is easy to install next to the battery. While you are at it, install an in-line fuse to protect yourself.

This is easy to check. There should only be one wire on the positive side of the battery and that connection should be for the switch.

And one MORE example of a lousy PDI. The dealer should have explained this to you. I wonder what else he didn't tell you about?

Water heater bypass valves?
Operating your thermostat: furnace vs AC?
Manual slide operation?
Where the water pump is located?
Where the filter is located?

I could go on.

They do work great. Last thing I do when putting the camper in storage. Much easier than disconnecting a battery cable.
