Bed Lift Gas Struts
We've had an issue with the gas struts on the bed lift since day one on our Rockwood 8280WS. The gas struts aren't strong enough to support the bed on their own, making access to that storage area a PITA.
I was going to replace the 60 lb rated Suspa struts with 100 lb rated and priced them out on-line...$30 each plus shipping.
Before going to that step, I thought that I'd try to reposition the struts further away from the bed's hinge to see if that would work. I moved the cylinder end mounting (on the bed frame) 4" and the piston end (on the bottom of the bed) 5". The bed is easier to lift now and stays in the open position on it's own. The only downside is that the bed opening is 2" lower than it was previously, which for me, is more than adequate.
So for those that have found their's to be a similar problem, there is a easy 15 minute fix.
