bicycle rack

I have ordered a new Rockwood 2703ws. Can the factory put a storage rack on the back like I have seen on the wolf pup. I am in a quandary as to how to haul bicycles. The wife does not want the bikes inside the trailer and my truck bed carries my Snap together kayak. I have read that you cannot put a rack on the rear bumper.

NOPE, no such factory option on Rockwoods/Flagstaffs.
they are ultralites and i believe your Wolf Pup is not an ultralite, therefore the difference.

if you want, you can have a welding shop, weld and brace a 2" receiver to the frame AND bumper but this mod will void the frame's warranty.

or you can pony up the money for a tongue-mounted bike rack.

Joe:

I'm on my 3rd season with the beefed up receiver/frame/bumper with no problems. (Installed by a certified welder at the dealer.) A few others are like me. But many on the forum will tell you not to. This debate is one of the biggest cans of worms on the forum.

Definitely don't just bolt something to the bumper. It's pretty flimsy by itself.

However, another option is a front receiver and bike rack on your truck. Here's an example for a Silverado:

Chevrolet Silverado Front Mount Hitch - 2009 | etrailer.com

Or you can put one on the A-frame of your TT:

If you have a ladder on your TT, try this:

I bought one of the racks from Support Rack that goes on the A frame right behind the propane tanks. It works great with two bikes. The only issue I have with it is you need a step stool to put the bikes on the rack.

many trailer owners have done what rockfordroo has done and are quite happy with it.

my only point is that manufacturers of ultralight trailers are now putting warning stickers on the bumpers and doing such a mod, will void the frame warranty IF you have future issues with the frame.

some owners are not concerned with the loss of warranty or they own a trailer that the frame warranty has expired.

i just want owners of new ultralight trailers to understand the cons of doing such a mod.

personally, my bikes are too valuable to risk plus i prefer to have my bikes where i can see them.

as a side note: along with the Support Rack system Tomgky posted about, another Quebec bike rack company(the original tongue-mounted bike rack company) Toppoprials, sells a system that mounts in a similar way but has a tray system for the bikes.

both are expensive and i would rather put the money in a roof rack system like Yakima or Thule. more versatile.

After a certain age, roof racks are no good, if you know what I mean.

i'm 60, with an right elbow that won't straighten anymore and a bad left shoulder but i still can use my bicycle roof rack.
maybe if i was shorter than my 6' height, it would be a worse issue.

if i couldn't use it anymore, i still would use a tongue-mounted or front hitch-mounted bike rack, over putting my bikes someplace i can't see them, until i see them bouncing down the road in my rear view mirror.

Great info from everyone posting on the forum. I am going with curt truck front receiver for the bikes. Allows me to keep an eye on them.

^^^ That's what I just ordered as well. Best and probably strongest option for our pickup.

The bikes arent on the rack in this pic, but we have a "bike bunk" that allows you to attach your bike rack (hitch mount bike rack) to the bike bunk so you can see them as you tow. Got it from campig world.

It can be a challenge to manipulate the bikes based on height off the ground, but I find that if you put the truck a few feet away (like you were going to hook up but you stop short so you can lower the tailgate) and put down the tailgate, there is no problem at all with height of the rack.

My only concern with some of the racks for the front, is if the bikes would hang low enough that turning sharp would cause the rear of the truck to hit the bikes on the rack. That ended up being an issue with my first install. So I got a different style bike rack (which allows the bikes to sit high enough to be above the tonneau) and I reinstalled the bike bunk closer to the trailer. It has been one of the best investments we have made for our TT
