Biggest waste of weight carried??

We don't dry camp, and trips are usually 6 hrs or less so we don't carry fresh water. Got to thinking, hot water tank is full of water, 6 gl = 48lbs. With the hot water tank in the front of the trl this means 90% of the 48 lbs will be tounge weight. Started draining the water tank before each trip. Why carry an extra 48lbs we don't need. Some might think this minor, but with the Ultra light 2604 factory weight of 5809, and a gross of 6600, that's not much wiggle room for weight capacity. When I unloaded our previous camper about a month ago before we traded it in I took 650lbs of stuff out of it.

Just always remember to cut your 120 volt power to the water heater before draining the water. That way, you have to physically cut it on after you fill and bleed the air out next time you hook up. It would be very easy to plug into the power pedestal before filling with water, and then having that "Oh No" thought immediately after plugging in, knowing that you just burned up your water element.

MTNGUY; went one step further on the switch. I have a bright orange take I hang on the outside of the heater door when the heater is turned on. Then when I turn it off, the tag goes inside the heater compartment. Sort of a "Remove Before Flight" flag used on military jet aircraft. Remove orange take = turn off heater, trl ready to tow.

Not sure if this would be appropriate for your particular water heater, but if it is then it would eliminate you having to pull the plug every trip. http://www.rvpartsnow.com/Tank-Saver...versal-TSA-200

MTNGUY; pic of item is hard to see. Is that a drain cock there that will go in the end of the anode rod? If it is then yes that'd be a whole lot easier.

MTNGUY; thanks new link workes, just ordered it. Not much to pull the rod, but a pain to get it lines up and threaded right to put back in, this will eliminate all that thanks.

You are welcome. I remembered seeing something like that, and figured it might help you. Hope it works.
