Bummed out: Slide room out of alignment...
Well, I'm just about bummed over what I have figured out about my new Rockwood fiver.
The slide room is not centered in the slide opening. It's too far to the rear. This has damaged the rear slide seal where the window passes by the seal (or viseversa depending on how you want to look at it.)
So I have just begun the warranty process, which I'm hoping will be relatively painless.
What am I in for? Anybody had a slide room adjusted or had a seal replaced? I have heard the entire room would have to be removed, but that seems like a bad way to design the thing.
What do I have to look forward to??

Big Hammer.......
Sorry no help Wade. Good luck and keep us posted. Should just be a simple adjustment though like Robert stated and then replace the seals...

So do they need to remove the room to replace the seals or is that just a rumor?
If I were designing an RV and using seals made of rubber that soft, I would design the thing such that the seals could be replaced without much effort.
What say ye? Yank the room or not??

I wouldn't think the room should need to be removed to replace the seals. I've looked at mine and I think that I could replace the seals without removing the room. That just seems counter productive to me and WAY too much work and room for messups for seals.

On those super slides they'll most likely have to remove it and then move the base over a bit then put it back unless the room isn't centered on the base. Then they may unbolt it and scoot it over and bolt it back down. I haven't looked at the Rockwood to see if the wipers can be replaced without removing the room. You'd certainly think they should be but we never know how FR assembles these units.
It is the wipers you're talking about right??? The seals are attached to the slide room flange and move with the slideout. The wipers are attached to the RV wall opening and the slide room moves past them when opening and closing.

I think the wiper and seal are integrated on this trailer. Here's a pic. You can see the hole in the seal at the top of the window. I don't recall any type of seal on the flange.
Here's a pic I sent to the dealer.

UPDATE:
Spoke to service tech at dealer who described a simple do it yourself adjustment proceedure. I'll try that tonight.
It involves beating stuff with a hammer so who knows...it just might work!

Looks like the outside wall and that does look like the seal. One thing I will say, it's rubbing pretty hard. I'd silicone it even after I "Persuaded" the slideout over.
My unit has triple rubber. It has a wiper where your picture is looking, it has a "seal" around the outside flange and a seal around the inside flange.

D-I-Y slideout adjustment
HA! I fixed it! And again I say, HA!
OK, I emailed the warranty folks at RVW. They said to speak to one of their techs, (by name) and he would explain to me exactly what needed to be done. I called and the very nice and helpful guy laid it all out for me.
1.Extend the slide, note which end is too tight.
2.Loosen the bolts on both extention rails where they attach to the slide out on the "outside"
3.Grab a hammer and tap the rails, moving them in the direction of the tight end. Tighten the bolts.
4.Run the slide in and back out again. This should re-center the slide.
The tech said slides do go out of adjustment from time to time. So now that I know what I'm doing, every now and then I'll check to see if the seals are binding and if they are, dig out the 3/4" wrench and the hammer.
That was easy. So what was I all worked up about? See pictures:

I have not had a problem with mine at this time, but thanks for the great info. I am sure it will come in handy sooner then later. The only problem I have had is that the top seal keeps sliding out of position as I am towing. When I get to where I am going the rubber seal is hanging out from between the slide out and the wall of the camper. I have installed two screws in the front of the slide out and two in the rear of the slide out and it still moves. I am about ready to take it off completely and say the heck with it.

Our slide seal ripped first time out. Just got it back from being replaced. They didn't have to take the slide out as far as we know. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but our warranty experience hasn't been stellar, to say the least. We don't know if it's Forest River or dealership. And since they tell you for warranty service you have to take it back to the point of purchase, guess we'll never know. We are going back out in our unit this weekend so we'll see if it's fixed. Will "making a simple self-adjustment" not nullify your warranty?

Mine didn't. If you follow the above instructions carefully it would be impossible for anyone to tell an adjustment was made. I was encouraged by my dealers warranty department to take the do-it-yourself approach before trying a dealer.

I don't know about "up and down" but there are adjustments to make sure the seal across the top contacts the interior wall as it should and another to make sure the slide outside wall is parrallel to the side of the trailer, which ensured the two end seals contact the interior wall as they should.
Fortunately I didn't need to go there.

I have a Forest River Sandpiper. My slide has caught the top rail and torn the seal. So I not only need a new seal which I have been trying to get from my local RV dealer for almost 6 weeks now, but slide needs to be adusted. Anyone have info on how to adjust?
Thank you
