Ceiling vents won't stay open

Hi everyone,
I just brought home a Windjammer 3001W. So far we like it but I am having one problem that I can't figure out.

The ceiling vents won't stay open in the bedroom. I have tried with the fan on low and high. With all the other vents opened and closed.

The two vents in the bedroom always close. They also whistle when there closed but I like it cool so I most likely will always have them open.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

Thanks!
Wayne

Hi!

We are having the same phenomenon in our new 8314SS. Off to the dealer soon with a short punch list of items to address, so I will update when service is complete.

Simple solution, Sticky Tack, the stuff the kids use to hang stuff on the wall without leaving the residue on the wall. Just use a small bit near the hinge part. Another thing if you don't mind the look is white plastic clothes pins. Quick fixes until dealer would replace them. Good luck!

Same issue I have witht he vents not staying open. It seems that if you open the vents on the unit it decreases the air going to the vents which most stay open.

Bottom line they are junk and need a better style that works.

o-ring fix

I had the same problem from day 1. I pointed them out while taking delivery of my 2011 FR 26RLS. I came to this forum and took a suggestion I read. Go to the hardware store and get a bunch of very small rubber o-rings. Gently pop the vents down (stick fingers up inside and pull straight down. When you have the vent cover down, look at the louvers. They are connected at the sides and have a plastic bar down the middle. Gently push one end of the bar connection out from one of the louvers, slip an o-ring on and snap it all back into place. Works perfect, can't see the fix, very cheap, took about 15 minutes to do 6 vents. I think the o-rings were size 0. Smaller the better. Good luck.

I solved the vent problem, I told my dealer about the vents and apparently a bad batch of vents made their way into some campers and mine was one of them, the dealer replaced all the vents. Im still puzzled at what was making them close

I replaced the two vents in the bedroom with a different style I found at Holman's in Cincinnati.
They screw open and closed instead of having the louver type openings.
They work really well. I'll post some pics in a couple weeks when I head back down to where the trailer is.

I like all of the solutions shared so far, but will probably leave it for the dealer to solve for now--simply on the principle that the unit is brand new.

Go to this site and make up your own and save it to your computer.
Select the USA map and check off the states you have camped.
Then add it to your signature.

I had to turn several of my vents 180 degrees so they would stay open.

I thought I was the only one with this issue. I had to use pennies to keep them open during our last outting. My punch list is growing again for the dealer. Hate to have to take her back in during prime camping season, but she is new. Glad I found this site..... Cheers,

Our Shamrock 23ss is doing the same thing. I will add this to our list for the dealer to fix. Glad I read this as I too assumed it was just ours.
