coal effect fire 8289ws
does anyone have a problem with this fire, for some reason when switched on the flames will sometimes go in the wrong direction, flames return to the fire, can it be a power surge or similar? i am based in the UK.

what i mean is
when the fire is switched on the flames should go from the coals to the top of the of the fire place, but sometimes my flames start at the top of the fireplace and go down to the coals, has anyone else encountered this ???

I think what you are talking about is the red and black foil. You might just be hitting a dark spot when you shut it off. Then when you turn it on it has to get passed that point. Never heard of that problem before. I can't think of anything else. It runs off of 110v ac, so your getting power. I don't know how much help this is, but it is the best GUESS that I have...

i dont know that as it was imported for me,
uk power on most campsites is up to 16amp. [which is most probably laughable to you guys]
what has happened is when the fire is on high and then i put the microwave on it stops the fire, and when i restart the fire that is when the pictures of the flames goes backwards. perhaps i think it is something to do with 110 using more
amps or something similar.??

the flame won't pull to many amps but if your heaters on and you put the Microwave on you would be close to that many amps if not over. I think you found your own problem. putting the flame on high is not going to be a big thing amp wise. Your camp pedestal is 16 amp but your main breaker is 30 amp. You should be tripping the pedestal breaker? I wouldn't worry about it, just turn the FP off when you use the microwave....

Most of the electric flame effects I've seen are done by a rotating drum. I have a similar rotating motor on my Christmas tree. The motor that causes it to rotate has a capacitor to provide the oomph (technical term) to get it spinning. If I click it off and on it will sometimes startup in the opposite direction, I believe because of the power surge/drop from rapidly turning it off and on effects the phase of the circuit causing it to essentially be 180 degrees out of phase and spin backward. At least that's all I could come up with when I dissembled the thing to figure it out. If you have a low power condition and its an AC Power rotating motor that spins the flame effect it might be as simple as turning it off for 10 seconds and then turning it back on without a lot of other draw.

Sounds like you are asking about an electric fireplace. If so the flame effect is operating backward.

The rig is designed to US standards, so for a 30 amp service design (US), there is a limit to how many branch circuits can be connected at one time. The fireplace is wired through a circuit that turns it off if the microwave is turned on. It's a pain on a cool morning! There is an extensive thread recently on this (I asked too!).
Also in the UK, you are running 16 amps but at 220-240 volts, so similar amounts of energy as we have with our "30 Amp" connections. It's all at 50 Hz, though, so perhaps the motor has a hard time starting in the right direction? (small AC motors are not my thing)
Good Luck!
