Question DC electrical question

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have a 2011 Rockwood 2403S Ultra-lite. I am having an issue with the 12v dc system not functioning. The battery is at 12.4v and without having shore power hooked up it will not run anything on DC power? After some digging around, I noticed a little black box on the frame which the red battery power cable connects to. My question is what is this device? Is it a relay or a battery polarity protection device. I checked for continuity through it and had none. I then reconnected the battery and made a jumper wire to jump the relay and when I did this the DC system powered up. I assume this inline relay is bad and am wondering if it is a common device which could be purchased at an auto parts store or does it need to be from the dealer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

It's always helpful to post a picture of what you're asking about. Does it look like this?

If so, it's a fuse (and shorting around it was a bit hazardous). Sometimes there is a reset button on them. if it doesn't have one, it will need to be replaced. If it has more than two terminals, it might be a relay in which case there is more to investigate.

I think you can buy them at auto-parts places (but might be wrong).

Sounds like you are describing a 12V circuit breaker. There are several types, and some have a "reset" button on the top between the terminals, or on the side (a small button that protrudes from the device.

They are available in most auto parts stores. Just match the current rating (20A, 30A, 40A, 50A) that should be on the device.

Thank you BarryD0706 & RodeoGeorge for the quick responses! I went out and looked and sure enough the fuse did have a reset button, pushed it in and all is working. I didn't have the capability to post a pic this time but thank you. It is much easier in the day time when you know what to look for.
