Dinnette cushion issue

I have a 2008 22RS that has a collapsed dinette cushion. The warranty expired last month so I thought I would see what I could do to fix it. I cut the black stuff off the bottom of the cushion to reveal the guts and found plastic packaging bands that you would normally see on a box that is mailed to you!!! Forest River is using plastic packaging bands to support the cushions - and the people who sit on them. I know this is an ultra lite but doesn't this seem a little cheezy to you???

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this THE RIGHT WAY? I certainly want better support than whats there. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I have a dinning room table and four chairs. It seems like that is a common thing with the cushions. Now that you that you are out of warrenty and you like what you have, you may be able to have the cushions remade with a zipper in the back so you can put foam in the cushions, the other thing is to remove it all and install a table and four chairs. I know, it's sad but they are cheezy. Good luck....

If it was me I'd be contacting FR about it. One month out of warranty. I would think, notice I didn't use ASSUME, they would honor the warranty since they know how they put the cushion together. It couldn't hurt to ask. If they don't honor the warranty maybe they could give you some direction as to how to go about fixing it. Otherwise, you may need to take it to a local upholzterer. Hope I spelled that right, oh well if not it's close!!

Good luck, Charlie

I agree with Charlie, a month isn't a very long grace period. Contact them and see what they say. If they refuse take some pictures and post them and I'm sure someone can give you some suggestions. Ours has a solid 3/8" plywood platform bottom.

We too have the free standing chairs and table now but our old Fleetwood Flair had the dinette with the cushions and the foam in them was soo cheap that they would flatten right out within minutes and you would find yourself sitting on the wood.

In your case it is appalling that you would find them stuffed with plastic bands. I would expect that FR will probably not give you new cushions or even the foam.

If it were me I would find a good upholstery shop and have them put in the good (read expensive) heavy weight foam that will hold up to the use. It will also make the dinette a much more comfortable bed when it's used as such.
