We purchased a new Wildwood travel trailer in May, 2011, and had a Dometic electric awning installed. Have already had issues, and haven't even been camping one yet. The motor totally quit working, and the fabric has two holes where opening of the door(s) pushes the fabric up because it's so low. The dealership has had our trailer for over 2 weeks... replaced the motor, but is telling us that electric awnings are all just very "low".

Is this true? Anyone else had this problem?/

Hi,

The only time our electric awning rubs against the door is when we have one corner set lower, if it has some water weighing it down, or it's not fully out. It also rubs a bit when we retract the awning with our door open so we make sure the door is closed. 95% of the time it is fine and there's no rubbing at all.

Seems like I never finished this thread but we did end up getting the part and paying about $70 to have it installed. It was worth the hassle, I guess, because it sure is nice to lower the corner when it starts raining lightly and not have to worry.

Giselle

Some people were having problems with their electric awnings not being able to dump water when it rained. They couldn't be adjusted like manual awnings and didn't have the spring loaded function some electric awnings have. Dometic provided a free Retrofit Kit for their Model 9100 electric awning which enabled the awning to be sloped to allow water to run off rather than pool. The free part had to be ordered through your dealer. IF you do a search you will find various threads on this subject.
