door hits awning

Just picked up our new Rockwood 8315bss, wondering if anyone else has had the problem with the door hitting the awning fabric when opening. It is an electric awning and has no adjustment to avoid this. Cant put in car port position and worried that eventually opening and closing the door it will wear the fabric...both doors hit it also.

Sounds like it was installed wrong. I'd definitely pay a visit to the dealer. I've not heard anyone else complain about it so I don't think it's a common issue.

yea, the arms should extend up some to avoid that problem. Mine's not an auto, but i know that if i drop the height of the arms, the door rubs mine too. There should be a roller on the corner of the door to prevent that also...sounds like they didnt install that on there either.

I have the 8315ss with the electric awning. The awning clears my doors by a couple of inches so I would say the awning was installed improperly. I would take it back to the dealer. They should fix the problem for you.

The roller thingy is an aftermarket D-I-Y item. On my list of low-priority when I get around to it stuff. I find I don't use my awning as much as other people. Maybe I'm weird or it's just rained and stormed so much the last few times I have been out.

Anyway, I think the roller is a really good idea.

Oh really? I did not know that.
When i bought my roo used, there was an envelope with everything under the sun in it that pertained to this trailer. One of the items in there was the instructions, some left over screws, and this wheel thing to put on the door. I wasn't sure what it was at first, but then i saw on the manufacturer's website that this was an included part for this awning. Maybe this was an aftermarket awning that was put on it, i'm not entirely sure. But I enjoy using it and it works great keeping us and our gear dry when we're watching the thunderstorms roll by.

Just brought home my new Flagstaff 831FKBSS (same trailer as the Rockwood 8315bss) and have the same issue with the door hitting the awning, espically with the awning in a tipped for rain runoff position. I added the aftermarket rollers that attach to the outside of the doors (I had them on a previous trailer and they worked just fine) and I don't expect any problems. Just be sure when you install the rollers that you allow enough room at the top of the door to clear the small rain flashing above the door frame. Also, try and keep the rollers at an angle equal to the pitch of the awning so the rollers are in full contact with the awning when needed.

Congrats on the new trailer. We have the 8315BSS with an A&E electric awning and it also clears by a couple of inches when FULLY extended. Make sure that your awning is opening all the way. When fully extended the decorative flap should be hanging down. If it is not then the awning may not have been installed properly, time to call the dealer.

We bought a Rockwood 8317SS about 3 weeks ago and have the same problem. I have been raising the awning just enough to miss the door. I am going to have the dealer take a look at it. Does anyone know if not having the awning all the way out would cause a problem?

My 8285WS can home yesterday and I checked the door while opening the awning. It easy clearned the door by at least 4"

my parents prowler camper/toy hauler came with the wheel on the door from factory. It just touches when the awning is closed. when the awning is open the wheel helps the door open close rolling on the awning and preventing the door from making a hole from the corner.

Double check your info sheet that you (hopefully) received. Fully extended to the limits--is actually "hyper-extended" as they say. The point at which the awning is inserted into the roller should be on "top", so that's just a smidge from "fully" extended. Make sense? In the recommended position, the doors will clear as long as the awning isn't dipped.

I wouldn't want the door or a roller on the door to contact the awning. Even the roller will eventually stretch the awning where it contacts. It's definitely not set up right or it's installed incorrectly.

I have a 2011 Rockwood 2604 and noticed the same issue this week while camping. With the awning extended and not pulled downward or in a tipped for rain, it clears not problem. Pull it down or tip for rain and the fabric rubs the hydralic hinge on top of the door. Wonder if the rollers will work with the hinge??? Or, it's back to the dealer. Thanks,

I just installed one of these rollers on my door to prevent any tears/scrapes in the awning during those times when it's dipped to much. When extending my awning I go all the way out and then bring it in some so the flap covering the roller is hanging roughly 5-6 inches down. When I got the trailer I just use to extend it all the way and noticed that with the slightest breeze would the flap would fling up and stay on top of awning. I realized I had it too extended and now the issue has gone away by allowing it to hang a little more. The awning doesn't touch my door when extended out. It only becomes a problem when dipped too much and now that I have the wheel on installed I'm hoping no tears/scrapes will occur.
