Dual A/C question

My new camper has dual A/C units. One in the living room, one in the bedroom, and I have a couple of questions on how they operate...

I only noticed 1 thermostat in the camper. Do both a/c's run off that one t-stat? Can one A/C be turned off? Do the A/C's share the ducts in the ceiling, or are they separated?

In other words, what do I do if I am stuck at a 30 amp site?

Thanks!

Tim

All units are plumbed different. Are your controls for the bedroom unit on the unit itself? When you run the main unit, do you get airflow through the bedroom vents? Do you even have bedroom vent outside the unit itself?

I don't have the camper yet, so I cannot answer some of those questions.

I did not see any controls on the bedroom air, but there definitely was vents in the ceiling.

Even when I get it home, I only have a 30amp plug run to where I will keep it, so I cant really run both airs at the same time till I upgrade that outlet.

My guess then is, main unit vents into bedroom. Bedroom unit has controls only on ceiling and works only in bedroom.

When you looked at the thermostat, was it square or rectangular? If it was square then it won't control both units. There are thermostats that control multiple zones, but normally on your RV the main A/C is controlled by the thermostat and the aux (bedroom) unit has manual controls on the air box.

I would guess this too. Unless a higher end rig with a more elaborate hvac system, chances are...

The main living room unit is controlled by the thermostat and vents into all rooms, including the bedroom.

-and-

The second unit, located in the bedroom, is not ducted and just dumps out the ceiling cover... and the manual controls are directly on the unit.

But there are many different implementations, so I could be wrong. [emoji846]

Our Silverback has Dometic A/C's. One in bedroom and one in living area. We have one controller that controls each unit individually. This is a link to the manual... http://dometic3frontend.qbank.se/epi...968c73ab73.pdf

If you are at a 30 amp site you select the zone button until the zone you want to turn on or off is selected. You then toggle with the mode button to turn on/off, select cool or furnace (no furnace for BR a/c), etc.

Hope this helps...

You did not mention what model you are buying or I missed it but in our unit the vent system is a race that loops from the back to the bedroom. When any ac is on air comes from all vents...

My Flagstaff 832IKBS (Identical layout to your 8329SS, I believe) has the second controller for the bedroom AC mounted on the rear facing side of the clothes closet in the bedroom. (Near where the second TV would mount.) It has two Coleman Mach units for what it's worth.

The bedroom unit has a small heat pump built into it as well.

I ordered the Rockwood 2905WS, with the dual A/Cs. i don't have it yet either, but it states with dual A/C units on the newer ones, they have a dual control on the wall. That should be what you are getting as well I am assuming, but again, that's based off what i am getting which is a 2017.5

You are correct sir!

While I don't have my grubby little hands on my new camper yet, the dealer still has pictures of it on their website. I got to looking at them and I see the bedroom t-stat right were you said it would be, on the rear side of the closet.

BTW, in case any of you are interested, here is the link to the pictures of my new camper

Not to change the subject but be careful opening the wardrobe doors. The locks are cheap plastic and i broke mine on week 2. Love the trailer but they could have done a better job with the door locks on wardrobe.

We usually only run one A/C once we get the RV cooled down. If you turn A/C on before the heat of the day ramps up you run just one and keep it cool inside. We found that when watching tv or having a quiet conversation we will run bedroom A/C to help with noise.

Thats a great idea. As both ACs in the 8329ss are ducted together that would cut down on noise.
