Electric stabilizer jack switches
Has anyone ever put a protective type cover over the stabilizer jack switches? When we picked up our TT the guy who did the walk through with us suggested this to help keep the elements out of the switch? Any thoughts on this? No results on a search.

Any exterior switches should be "wash down" proof. No need to add an additional cover. But, adding a cover wouldn't hurt anything either.

I agree that the switch should be a "wash down" type switch, but that doesn't keep dirt and grime from getting in.

I have a 2011 and have replaced my switch twice ( warranty ). I have looked for a covered switch, with no luck. The one that is on the rv now is sticking, in the on position again.

What is the size needed for our jack switches? Do you know what the part # is for the needed switch cover?

wagon52 - do you mean that your stabilizer jack switches are exposed to the elements? Why would any manufacturer do that?
Our stabilizer switches (front and rear) on our Silverback are in an enclosed compartment that also houses the battery. I don't think I would like any electrical switch (s) outside of the RV.

My landing gear switches are not only "outside" they are in the splash pattern from my truck. The Stab switch is outside as well but in its own little "compartment" with a plastic door.
I need to do something before the landing gear switch corrodes.

The stabs on mine are behind a cover but the back side is open right behind the rear wheels and guess what? it got wet and stopped working so I cut a hole thru a foldgers coffee container you know the square plastic one with the screw on lid siliconed it to the back wall where the switch is mounted and kept the screwed on lid facing down for acess to the switch so far it works great.

As for the front switch I was thinking of a outdoor switch plate with the swing up cover from Home Depot they have them with a rectangular hole and cover in white also.

Yes B47 they are on the outside. The front is on the curbside just over from and above the pass through storage. The rear one is on the back wall. Not the best design.

I have to agree with "...not the best design." I want to say that many of you have been RVing for much longer than I have and probably have some better and more expensive units than mine (2012 Silverback 29rk), but after reading many posts about switches being outside of the RV, the problems people have changing their water filter and other things, I guess we are just lucky with our unit. We didn't shop around that much, but we brought what we liked.
Not saying we will not have problems later on, but the only major problem we have had so far is a noisy indoor refrig fan (which many of you have had also) and the outdoor refrig design that the factory messed up.
I have learned a lot about RVing from you all and I certainly hope to benefit from all your advice - believe me - I read every post!
I am somewhat concerned about my wheel bearings and tires on our upcoming trip from Texas to Upstate NY and back, but I have learned what to look for and hopefully everything will be OK.

I never really gave it much thought, but the stab switchs on our 2012 Rockwood 8314 are outside on the side of the unit, both front and back.

I thought of adding a external cover as well and asked durring my walk through. The tech said "Nah" they're made to be outside. One week later the one external switch I have for the rear stablizers failed. They are cheap chinese switches.
I went to Menards and bought a exterior wall cover switch with gasket for about $3.50 . It has a rectangle opening inside with a hinged lid. They are just deep enough to cover the switch. Of course I have not yet installed it. I had so many other mods going on that had higher priority, but this made me realize I need to get that completed! I also had seen a clear hinged cover at Menards that I want for the Water Heater Power/Gas Switch. I have four kids and this switch is on the bathroom wall above the toilet. I can only imagine that someone will hit that water heater switch when its empty and cause a problem.

I could of had the power stabilizer jacks when we ordered our RV, I chose NOT to have them. The hand crank ALWAYS works, although I added about 12 inches to it as to not have to climb under the RV to use it.

Mike - nothing wrong with the concept of "KISS" - Keep It Simple *) plus you saved how many pounds of weight by not having all of the associated wiring, etc.?
