Electric water heater

How does it work? My Mini lite #2109S has option for gas or electric. The electric switch is turned on but no hot water.
Any suggestions?

There is a switch on the water heater itself and a circuit breaker in the breaker panel dedicated to the electric water heater. They both have to be on in addition to the wall switch that controls the water heater.

Hope this helps,

John U

BTW I always run both gas and electric, keeps the water hotter and has quicker recovery than either system by itself.

If in your post you are referring to the breaker switch in the power panel inside, ... then there is also a switch in the outside panel, ... lower left, sort of hidden behind tubing,..... its a small rocker switch which has to be "on" also,.....

if you have a Suburban brand, this may help, as there is often confusion on what switch controls what:

Another thing to check for is the winter bypass valves being set for winter and not for normal use. It's also explained in the link above.

Yep, and if it wasn't, that's probably why it's not hot (toasted element).

But, yes, go through WMTIRE's link and make sure all is right.

Have you tried resetting the safety switches. They are located top left under the rubber rectangle. One is for AC and the other for 12VDC. Just depress till you hear a click or keep it pressed for a few seconds. I discovered this on our last trip and finally got the heater to work.

Suburban also has the habit of hiding the rocker switch behind a piece of foil - we were on our 4th trip before I found ours!

Electric water heater

My rocker switch went bad this summer, tested it with a volt meter. Found out it was faulty and went to a local hardware store and replaced it for a few bucks.

Good chance the thermostat or overload on AC side supply are open, they are in series Located under rubber flex cover. Use a meter to check continuity between points, happened to me

I really don't use the electric wh because I have a 30 amp. Electric wh takes a lot of power. I usually turn the gas wh 10 minutes before take a shower and that's enough.

Question. Have you ever gotten hot water? Reason I ask is the water bypass could be wrong by the heater. I had the valves turned wrong at the beginning of the season. Once I got the right I got hot water.

The OP said it works fine on propane.

I'm wondering if somewhere along the way it was turned on without water (on electric) and fried the element?

Mike... you are going to have to do some electrical testing with a meter.
If you are uncomfortable with that, you'll need to take it in for repairs or call a mobile tech.

If you have a meter and know how to use it, let us know and we can walk you through some basic tests.
