Fireplace shuts off when microwave is turn on?

We just purchased a Rockwood 8289WS & on 1st trip last weekend we were using the fireplace for warmth & when we turned on the microwave it would immediately turn off the fireplace. Is it normal for the fireplace to shut off when using the microwave?

Are you saying the Fireplace shut off and the microwave continued to run, or did you trip a circuit breaker (so that both went off)? If you didn't trip a breaker, it's certainly not normal.

Call your dealer and ask them. It might be a feature to prevent you from overloading 30 amp service.

Just curious, if the microwave is on, does turning on the fireplace turn off the microwave? I somehow detect Gremlins here...

Wow! COOL!

I have a wall switch that forces me to select between the two.
Yours must be automatic!

Yes the fireplace shut off and the micro continued to run. There was no circuit breaker tripped.

That is a nice feature. Does the fireplace come back on after the microwave turns off, or do you have to "restart" fireplace? I don't have a fireplace, but I like the idea, and the switch could have an alternate use.

I also have a manual switch that I must choose either the microwave or fireplace. I would guess that is done to prevent over-loading the camper wiring.
But I would also like the automatic version!

we were just out for the first time on our May long weekend (Canada), we own a Rockwood 8329ss we have the fireplace also. Im pretty sure their is a current limiting device on that circuit, it allows the m/w to run, as the m/w probably draws the most current, the only thing it would be nice if the fireplace would come back on, but as most electronics that turn off just dont come back on.
