Folding dinette table

This is my 5th Rockwood. Previous 4 had 1” ledges at front edge of the dinette seats. This allowed the table (when in traveling position) to slide out easily, to tilt and provide access to the folded legs.

New one, not so. The long ledges have disappeared. In their place appears four vinyl protrusions (one at each end of the seats) about six inches long. These support the table while traveling. In addition, Rockwood has placed two velcro strips to secure the table from sliding. These are placed directly below the window. The mating velcro strips are attached to the bottom ends of the table.

Problem! Previously, all I had to do to set up a stowed table, was to grip the edge of the table, slide it several feet into the interior of the trailer, then grip the “far-end”, tilt it up and open the legs.

In this new trailer, the table is secured down by the velcro strips at the far end. I have to then crawl up on the cushions to grip the table’s far end and pull it up off the velcro while simultaneously sliding the table away from the wall. When I release table, the unsecured end then drops to the floor. I then crawl back to trailer interior and drag the table out onto the floor, to tilt and access the legs.

I know I make a rather “simple” procedure sound tedious, but us old fellows with bad backs don’t need this. [emoji51]

Is there anyone out there, with this new design, that can share a simple and easy technique to grapple with this table and ease my problem?

The rest of you with old design, that allows you to slide your table out, count your blessings.

I think Rockwood just hired a new engineer and had him/her solve a non-existent problem.

Guess maybe I should have ordered the upright table[emoji16].

We just travel with the table up. Don’t know if that will work for you or not. Jay

I think you may have the same table as I do from looking at your floor plan. Maybe 2.5 x 4 ft with strange collapseable mech. Always BIG help to post photo so people are certain what you're talking about!
Lube pivot points of mech 1st w/ wd40. The 4 blocks being there for rest position is a plus. From stowed position, lift front of table to about 45 deg, slide latch over and pivot legs into place. Rotate table upright.
To lower and stow, from normal dining position. Place your foot against trestle leg, move latching lever an pulltable top towards you. As table starts to lower, slide and guide into stowed position. OK?

fella10 has pinned his table in place, so he can travel with it up. Never has to fold it down. I will probably be doing this soon. His method involves a couple of 90 degree shelf brackets and a pin. See first pic in Post #8 here:

I've also seen it done with nylon webbing screwed to the bench on one side and a snap like this on the other:



Instead of a snap, someone used a twist-lok fastener like this:

Jeff64 - your response sounds exactly what I needed to hear.

Do you think Forest River intended for the table to be set up that way?

I read a couple of responses that suggest we travel with the table in the up position. That’s what DW would like. Maybe I will consider both...

I'm guessing your table mechanism looks like this one:





Suggest you lube it up; that will help it come up easier.

We have what sounds like the same table. We fold ours down since there is a large window next to the table top when up.

What I do is lift the front edge of the table up about a foot and this releases the 4 velcro points, I can then pull the table towards me enough to rest the table top on the bracket with the velcro and then I lower the legs.

It's a bit of a pain but the more we do it the easier it gets.

That's the same table set up. If you follow my directions, pivot table top on the back blocks. I put a velcro rub strip on the wall at the rear so when you lift front edge of table it is in contact with velcro and rear blocks. You dont have to exert any more effort than that
