Found when we were last out with the RV that the Range Hood Fan did not operate. I finally got around to checking it out.

First though that because the outside vent flap was not open, the motor circuit had some sort of interrupt or interlock. Couldn't figure out how to open the outside flap, BUT a search of the forum solved that. Thanks to all that posted in that thread. As others, I was leary of applying too much pressure on the flap clips, but after reading the posts knew that it might take considerable effort.

Anyway, flap open, and still no fan operation. Isolated the problem to an open SEFUSE (99 degrees C) that is taped to the side of the motor on the ground line. This thermal fuse opens to prevent the motor from overheating.

Sent an email to Ventline asking for a replacement, but doubt that they will send one since they actually come with the motor. $2 on eBay, and I'll be back in business.

Yeah, what's up with that? I've had to take a screw driver and pry the clips open.

I received a reply from Ventline regarding the defective (open circuit) SEFUSE that is taped to the motor. As I mentioned earlier, it is a safety device to prevent motor overheating.

Ventline states that the SEFUSE is only required on RVs that are sold in Canada, as it is a Canadian RV spec requirement. They told me that I could order a replacement motor without the SEFUSE and install it.

My guess is that Rockwood just uses that model Range Hood on all their RVs so that if they are shipped to Canada they are covered.

Why would I order a new motor when I can just bypass the SEFUSE? I've checked the motor, the current draw is within specs, and it runs cool.

Bottom line. I ordered a replacement SEFUSE (SF96E) on eBay for $2, and will install that when it arrives next week.
