Fresh water tank capacity?

Hello All

Just wondering if I am missing something. My fresh water tank capacity is supposed to be 43 gallons according to the factory specs. However I recently purchased a gallon counter and can only seem to get about 27 gallons in. I let it burp a few times but will not take anymore water. It just continues to pour out of the fill hose. Also the meter in the trailer shows full. I have also filled a 6 gallon water can to verify the counter was correct. Maybe the drain doesn’t empty it out completely? I have let it drain out until nothing was left. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Trailer is a 2017 2304DS.

Thanks in advance

The water capacity often includes the amount of water in the water heater and lines but you are still off a bunch.

Also depending on the installation the fwt drain can be an inch or two from the bottom of the tank. The overfill or vent tube can be an inch or two from the top of the tank, they are hardly ever mounted on the top.

Did Rockwood increase the size of the fresh water tank for 2017 and is your 2304DS an early-2017 model year build?

Rockwood tends to start equipping their units with a model year’s upgraded spec components sometime after they start producing the new model year run. Often it happens around early summer, say June, and as the old part supply is exhausted.

For example, my 2019 was built in April 2018 (an early-2019) but it still has the external colour scheme, smaller fresh water tank and Reese Revolution pinbox of a late-2018. It has the fabric and internal colour scheme of a 2019 though. I would have liked to have a couple of the upgrades they did (including the larger FW tank) but others I specifically didn’t want (internal Nautilus P1 water management system that robs pass through storage), so I opted to buy a dealer stock unit rather than ordering.

Check the support of your fill and vent hoses.
It is a known problem that sometimes these hoses are left hanging and end you droping below the tank level which creates a water lock (the hoses fill with standing water) and don't let the air get out of the tank when filling.
When you start filling water, the pressure inside the tank start to increase and then you think the tank if full when water back up but in fact it is not full but pressured....
You may need to drop the enclosure to check these hoses. You can do that by unscrewing the L shaped plastic holder at the last cross bean in the frame, close to the rear bumper....

X2. Look on the sticker on the left front side of your TT. It will tell you the build date. Here's mine as an example. My "2016" was built in early 2015 and is essentially a 2015.

There should also be a sticker somewhere that says what a full load of fresh water weighs.
Divide that by 8.345 and you know the gallons it holds.

Should look something like this... this one holds 31.39 gallons.

Mine was advertised as 48 gallons but I can only squeeze in 30 before it overflows.

That's not always correct, either. My label shows 332 lbs of water which would be 40 gallons. But my tank is an Alpha Systems VB24637HRCD which shows up as 44.5 gallons. And my flow meter shows I get 45 gallons into it.

Mine was advertised at "30 gallons" but only holds 22. The manufacturer reserves the right to change specifications at any time.

I found my actual FW tank capacity listed must include a full HW heater and water in the lines. When folks talk about capacity of a tank... There are two figures... what you can get in it and what you are able to use out of it!
Same on small aircraft... there is capacity of fuel tanks and then actual useable fuel... usually printed by the tank filler and in the manual.

I went through the same thing with my 2018 8328BS SUL TT. Freshwater capacity in the brochure is listed as 43 gallons. Keyword is “capacity.” I even dropped the Coroplast and measured the dimensions of the freshwater tank, which calculated out to 37 gallons. So with my 6 gallons in my water heater + a 37 gallon capacity in my freshwater tank, 43 gallons it is. I recently drained the freshwater tank completely, and verified it, then using my in-line water meter set for US gallons, I was able to get 36.9 gallons into the tank before any overflow.

Same with our 2902WS. I was a little surprised!

I used one of these to move the pickup and drain line to the bottom of the tank from the side.
It extended my usable water from the end of the second day to mid morning if the 4th.

If you can access the tank filler neck which is usually behind cabinetry or some other obstruction check the 1/2” vinyl breather hose. There often get kinked causing fill issues.

If you can see the tank, just measure the outside dimensions of it. That will get you really close.

I have a rockwood 5er 2888ws. Does anyone know where the fresh water tank drain is located. I had to power fill as the camp ground had to shut down the water. We will be heading out tomorrow and would like to empty the fresh water
Thanks in advance
