Furnace Issues 2014 8289WS

A few times last season as well as this past weekend my furnace comes on intermittently. The fan starts first as it should then it shuts itself down. Sometimes it runs correctly but most of the time not, any suggestions?
I had it back at my dealer last season but he indicated all is "normal", yeah right😡

sounds to me like you are hitting the high limit switch. Do you have any of your floor vents covered on closed off??

I covered some of my vents last year and it shut my furnace down cause it got too hot.

Fan would run for a minute and then just shut off

Hope that helps,

When calling for heat, the furnace is designed to come on, run the fan a few moments and prove out it is running via a sail switch. This is necessary because they use part of the fan for the combustion chamber. (in a separate part of the furnace)

If the control board/module doesn't see voltage (through the sail switch) it won't try to light the furnace because it deems it unsafe to light.

If the sail switch circuitry is working OK, the furnace will try to light three times.
If it fails to light, the control board/module goes into lock-out and it is necessary to shut the furnace off to retry.

You didn't mention what part of the process your gets to before it shuts down.
Once the fan starts, do you hear a faint clicking like the igniter is trying to light the propane?

You could have electrical or propane delivery issues depending on the result.

Post the brand and model # of the furnace for better answers as well.

I had a similar issue with my Roo 19. Can't explain it, but I replaced the crappy analog thermostat with a digital and never had another problem.

OK here are the specs for my furnace:
Make, Suburban
Model, NT-30SP

Sometimes the fan runs for 5-10 seconds then shuts down. I do hear it start then after 30 seconds or so a click and heat begins to flow. Most of the time though the fan runs for about 30 seconds and the system shuts down😡😡

Good info by 5picker that everyone should make note of. Sounds like an intermittent sail switch. You can bypass it temporarily for a test with a jumper wire as long as your fan is starting up at first, which sounds like it is. 30 seconds or so after your fan starts up until you hear a click to start the burner sounds too long to me.

tdidad,
I sounds like you have an intermittent problem which often times is very hard to diagnose.
You are going to have to do some troubleshooting on your own to determine what part of the control system isn't working.
If you are uncomfortable with doing testing yourself, find a good service repair facility or mobile tech.
If you feel capable of following troubleshooting procedures, **HERE** is a link to the Suburban Furnace Service Guide.

Best of luck and let us know what you find.

you can have a bad sail switch but more likely it's a carbon-ed up flame sensor or a bad high limit that tripped one to many times . a furnace is nothing to mess with if you don't know what your doing . if you do great if not call someone

You may want to read the following threads. Some of us have figured out it has to do with the sail switch, vent covers, battery power, and/or elevation.

I has a similar problem. I reset the thermostat and all was back to normal. You just might want to try that first.

Is the RV unit plugged into 110 volt shore power or just on battery? Furnace needs 12 V DC to control board. It will operate down to 9.5 volts but not any lower. From what you are describing it sound like the furnace is having intermittent prof of ignition problem. When the pilot in the furnace lite's with the spark ignition the pilot flame is in contact with a flame rod the control board passes a small DC current though the flame to prove the pilot gas is burning. If it dose not see the DC current in less than 5 sec. it will shut the gas off and shut the fan down. after 30 sec. it will try to lite again and will do this 3 times and lock out the furnace if it dose not light. The only way to reset the furnace if this happens is to turn the heat off at the thermostat to cycle the 12 V DC power to start the furnace. In short it sound like you have a pilot ignition problem. If you don't have a good working knowledge of propane don't play with it. If the dealer you have can't fix it take it to an other dealer or call Suburban for a dealer near you that is a factory rep.

Hope This Helped Tim

you can go off of others threads and solutions for a good place to start and trace but do not think the answer for every furnace problem is always the sail-switch or
altitude . you need to verify all for yourself .your safety and family's is at stake
