Genesis Technologies GT-3.0 Support?

First trip out in the new Rockwood and the factory installed entertainment system will not turn off when pressing the power button on the unit or the remote. The units blue backlight stays on all the time now and the display that once worked now just shows misaligned lines and symbols. The manual says you can can do a "factory reset" by holding the function button for 10 seconds. However, I do not see a button on the remote or unit that says function. All google searches do not seem to identify a company or tech support number to call when searching Genesis Technologies. Anyone know who actually made this and if there is a good contact or tech support # to call? Thank you.

NP, I haven't found any problems with my Genesis but it is complicated and found some answers there.

FYI, I miss camping this Father's Day weekend but I'm glad I could help while killing time and browsing in a lounge on a business trip in Sao Paulo. The world surley is small these days as I do this and skype my wife in the evening.

and...BTW, all of the surrounding ads on this forum are local and in Portuguese. How do they do that?

Had a similar issue after a very hot Texas storage period. I pulled the trim off, removed the 6 screws holding it in, pulled the plug and waited 0 secs, hasn't happened since!

I spoke too soon. Now I can't shut off the blue backlight after plugging my cell phone into the USB port. I pulled the fuse but still on after putting it back.

I'll try pulling the plug but I would think removing the fuse did the same thing. I also held the mode button to reset as in the manual but that didn't work either.

I did post on the heartland site.

I tried the Heartland site and he responded right away saying that holding the mode button for 30 seconds would reset the radio. It didn't work for me and backlight remains on. He's traveling today and I appreciate his fast answer on a Saturday night. I just got home and travel again Tuesday for a few days so I need to be ready today for the 4th. I pulled the radio, isolated the hot wire and added a switch to kill the power to the radio. That way I can still use the radio and won't have to pull the fuse.

Same Unit Same Problem

I also have the Genesis 3 unit or what is in fact the Concertone POC. This was the 2nd unit from them and was a warranty replacement for the original unit that failed in less than a year. This unit didn't make it a year either, but did get past the warranty period. When it operated it was a nice piece of gear, but seriously it didn't last one year before going to the blue screen. As a guess we had our TT out 10 times in that year for about 20+ days. If we turned it on and off say as many as five times a day, it was cycled on and off around 100 times. To fail in that many cycles is truly amazing.

Needless to say we are not replacing this unit with the same thing. I'm not looking forward to working through the wiring changeover, but am totally confident that any other unit I could possibly buy will last longer than either of the previous two Concertone/Genesis units.

If it takes people like me sqawking about truly poor quality for a manufacturer to make changes, that manufacturer is in trouble. Could be why they are changing their names, an effort to leave their debris trail behind.

Can you tell me where the fuse is? How did you access it? Just curious because I couldn't locate it.

Sorry to hear about your issue with his unit. I ended up pulling the unit and simply disconnecting all 3 of the wiring harnesses. I was told this would reset the unit, but it didn't. Ultimately, we brought it back to the dealership and they replaced it with a new one. The new one is a little different and so far is working perfectly. Keeping my fingers crossed as these systems seem very unreliable. Good luck!

Try to reset your system, page 31 in the manual;

FACTORY DEFAULT RESTART
Press and hold FUNCTION button for 10 seconds - Unit will shut
off. Restart unit by pressing the ON button. Factory defaults will
be reset with this type of restart.

Tried this too, didn't work. Thanks for trying though.

Are you having the same problem after plugging in something into the USB port? If so I would also try plugging in a thumb drive into it. Something smaller than 2 gb with a mp3 song on it. It may be stuck looking for a drive it can read. Just a thought.

Here is a quote from Herk(Lou) from another thread...

"Important!

There is a size and format limit on the USB and SD chip ports for showing photos, videos or music (MP3). The chip/USB stick format MUST be in FAT32 or FAT (NOT Windows NTFS or other proprietary operating system like some cameras have). Also some sound systems have a 500 meg limit others have an 8 GIG limit on chip size.

Try a small size SD chip or memory stick."

Yes this occurred after use of USB port. After drive home it went off, turned it back on at home just to check to see if it reset itself but it is still stuck. I don't own a thumb drive smaller than 2g. (hard to find that small these days isn't it?) it won't reset back to factory settings with the instructions in the manual, it is just stuck. I will try to find a small thumb drive and try though. Anything to not have to take it in to service center but I may have to...

It's just stuck now I can't get anything to work on the unit. I was hoping there was a fuse to pull and that would help reset it but don't know where the fuse would be, possibly in the wall? This seems like a big piece of junk installed in my new TT. Does everyone have this unit or do they upgrade?

I don't have access to my TT now. I would look and I assume you have, in the fuse compartment. It is 12volt so look at the fuses not the breakers. If not there, I have also heard that there may be some fuses behind the power center. If you pull that, I would disconnect all power to the camper. 120 volt (shore power) and 12 volt (disconnect the battery).

I just got off the phone with my dealer. My THIRD GT-3.0 has been ordered. (Still under warranty, thankfully).
This time the POS developed a mind of it's own; on/off button won't work, but the remote does! The speakers sometimes turn off & on as I change radio stations! Oh yeah, and while adjusting the volume, it will sometimes switch to CD mode!. I did the reset thing with the function (mode) button, it didn't make a difference.
The dealer told me they are replacing these radios on a regular basis.

I do have a theory about this. This second radio was working OK until I brought the TT in for some service recently. When I picked it up, the battery was nearly dead! I had to plug into my TV in order to use the tongue jack. This is not a good situation for electronic devices of any type. Any thoughts?

Also, just curious, has anyone had any feedback from Forrest River or whoever makes these radios?
