Well there’s a novel idea I hadnt thought about. Going to be away from RV for a few hours? Turn off water to RV? Thanks for that gem. Ive got my RV hooked up outside my house with water connected to it right now. Wondering if i should get out of bed and turn off the water. Ha.

Never had a particular problem (that know of anyway as always use the $8 camco brass regulator) but have instances where some water has sprayed back into rv due to poor fitting on water inlet. That's a pretty cheap piece of equipment

water leaks are bad, just a matter of time before the damage shows up.

My filter ruptured while hooked up to the house! We were leaving the next day and had checked everything out before the trip. The next morning we woke up to water running out of the camper. Dried it up and hit the road. Needless to say over the next few months the floor started getting soft and bottom of cabinets started to swell. It was 2 months after my warranty ran out! Luckily my insurance covered the trip back to the factory in Indiana for the repairs . Water pressure had nothing to do with it! The POS filter housing cracked, no bad seal or loose,..cracked! I bypassed the filter the day we found it broke and will never put a filter inside my trailer again. 2013 Rockwood ROO iks231.

Enjoy your new R/V!
X2 to never leave the rv for an extended time away. all those hoses and fittings could let go minutes after you leave. I always walk to post and turn the quarter turn valve off. I don't need to ever worry about coming home to a leak problem. now filling up the black tank and not paying attention to job at hand. that's another story for another post.

I think the lesson here is never leave your trailer with the water tap opened and that is with or without a pressure regulator valve. When we leave for a visit or to shop, we always shut off the water valve because we never know when something will go wrong in a trailer or at the campground. I also removed the filter from inside the trailer and now it is outside on a rack.

When we first started camping, I knew nothing about any of these issues. We had a 24-year-old trailer that I had purchased from my father-in-law. In 1979, we went to Flagstaff AZ to attend a planetary geology conference at the observatory and camped at the KOA. At that time, the campground water pressure was around 110 lbs. Being a raw newb with only dry camping experience I was completely ignorant about what equipment we needed. We left to go shopping and when we returned my neighbor came over and said he had turned the water off after our house developed a huge ballon (it was a regular, cheap garden hose - like I said, I was a newb) and almost burst when he caught it. He showed me the hose and it looked like something out of a cartoon. I bought a proper hose and a regulator on his recommendation. I was 26 at the time and newly married. Lesson learned. I've never been without one since.

Just out of curiosity did you verify that the campgrounds water pressure was too high? Did you buy a regulator or check with a neighbor to verify that was the problem? Like others said it may not have been the source of the issue but simply a leak in the plumbing system. Needless to say regulators are still a good idea. Good thing the rig is still under warranty. Happy camping!

Sounds more like a plumbing problem with water running out the threads. Sounds like it wasn't sealed sufficiently. But a good water regulator is definitely a must have . Also look under your sink to make sure water connections are tight. This is my second forest river trailer and both had leaky faucet connections.

I did the same. Besides, Rockwood/FR put the filter where you couldn’t reach it. I had to pull the external shower housing to get to the filter to remove it.

Same problem even with a regulator

I ha the same problem on my first trip out in my Rockwood mini light even though I had a regulator installed. The water filter housing was not tightened after the dealer winterized the system. So, when I connected the CG water supply, it flooded the bathroom and water filter compartment. Be sure to check that filter before connecting the CG water supply.

When checking in at Ozark Country CG they tell you pressure is between 100-110 psi and to be sure to use a regulator.
1st mod, if an in house filter is to bypass it. Seen too many cause problems. Like asking for trouble.

Sye, at the Tadpole they had water pressure that was peaking around 100psi. I know at a place out west they had water pressure that would get up to around 130psi. They insisted that you had a regulator and they checked to make sure, even though they also had them on the bib.

ANYTIME you are away from your rig AND, no one else is there keeping an eye on things, the water supply should be shut OFF. Put a quarter-turn valve on the water supply and connect everything else to that. That way, it's VERY easy to turn the master water supply on and off. It sounds like a pain but, you'll quickly get in the habit of shutting the water off when leaving and back on when returning. The rig you save will be your own.

We use this method. The 1/4 turn is on a "Y" so we have a second water outlet to attach a hose for whatever.

It also allows us to relieve the pressure inside the hose and camper when disconnecting so the water is not spraying in our face as we unscrew the supply hose.
