help with contacts Al-ko Axles

I bought a Rockwood 8240ss in Jun 2005. I had the bearings inspected and repacked in Florida after approx 5000 miles, APR 2007. They replaced the front left bearing at this time. Last week the same bearing blew apart on the highway and damaged the axle. Anyone have phone numbers to assist with warranty repair. My trailer is at a garage in port hope Ontario.

I think they only cover the torsion (suspension) part of the axle.

I just installed a new axle on the front, I am having a problem getting one side of the axle to set flush on the bottom of the frame, I checked the rear axle that was installed by the factory and it sets the same way about 1/4" down from the frame, but flush on the other side, I called AL- Ko about it, and Chris said it all should set flush. I am e-mailing him pictures. I am leaveing Friday for a camping trip to Hershey. My camper has been setting over 45 days because of lack of parts due bearing and axle replacment. I tested it around my home, and all seems to be ok. I am concerned, eirther AL-KO has a problem with the welds not being straight on the axle or the frame on my camper is twisted.

I just recieved an e-mail from AL-KO about the axle, they want the VIN number, date of purchase and date of manufacturing of my camper they seem to be concerned about somthing. I am going to go to the dealers lot and check some of new models to see if they have the same issue.

The verdict is in about the way the axle sets on the frame. FROM THE ENGINERRING DEPARTMENT AT AL-KO, they said as long as the axle is flush on one side of the frame and the back of the axle mount on the other side is flush it is OK for the front of the axle mount to have a gap. It's funny, because they still did not anser my question as to why it is like that? is it a welding issus and/or a frame issue, but they say it's ok anyway.I have posted pics, the one side where the axle is flush is the rights side and the other side is the left side, you will see that there is a gap that is a 1/4 inch out. At this point I don't know what to think or do,I guess be carefull and keep an eye on things.

From the pics it looks like the mounting holes may be out of alingment? The rear (flush) is right but the front side is a scosh down? I don't know. I don't have this type of suspension, mine are leaf.

Thanks, the pictures look great! this is the axle I installed because I only had three tires on the ground due to the bearing failure and was not able to tow it to the dealers. I posted this info earler. I have pictures of the rear axle that was factory installed and that axle sets the same way. You are right, it's down 1/4 of an inch. they say it's ok.

rockwood06,

Look at THIS post.

The axle mounting holes are slotted. If the mounting hardware are not torqued properly, the axles will try to rotate in a hard braking situation.

The problem is that from the start I can not pull the left side up flush to the frame. With the right side flush, I wounder if ether the mounting bracks on the axle were welded out of square from each other or the frame is twisted. I have already towed my camper like this for 255 miles and checked for tightness and movement It seems to be stable at this time. I would like to have the frame checked, but not back to my dealer.

I doubt seriously the frame is twisted. I guess it's possible the mounts could be welded out of square.

Are you trying to pull the mount up with the tires contacting the ground?
I had to remove the weigth of the trailer, to a point where the tires were not in contact with the ground, then jack the axles back into place.

The tires were not on the axle when I installed it. When the axle was up and in place I had all 4 bolts in the holes, I was able at first to get the left side flush and then I snugged the bolts just to hold it so I could check the right side. The right side was down a 1/4 inch in the front, so I used a 3 ton floor jack to try to push it up in place,It did not move all the jack did was lift the camper. All that didn't work so I reversed my actions and the samething happen to the left side and thats where am now. My rear axle on the left side that was original from the factory is the same,It has a gap on the front mount, but not as much. I E-mailed AL-KO the pictures, the said it was ok. I spoke to my dealer abou it and he said thats how there are.......NOW ISN'T THAT SOMETHING!!!! It seems to me that no one wants to say what the problem really is. I am still going to check the new models up on the there lot as soon as I can get up there. I appreciate your in put and any body else that might have some clue, Thanks again.
