Hit by car

After breaking down and getting towed in PA we finally made it to Forest River. They did a great job and fixed all of our warrantee issues quickly. Stopped for a quick overnight near Elkhart before heading home, unhitched, and went off to get lunch/visit Amish country. Came back to a commotion at our campsite.

The motorhome across from us lost control of their toad, which rolled downhill and crashed into our brand new 8289WS. The Honda CRV hit the left end cap of our bumper square on, hard enough to knock our trailer of all the blocks and Linx levelers. The rear jacks were 1 foot away from the levelers they started on, the tires were off the levelers, and the landing gear was off the 1 inch planks it started on. Basically, the entire rig rotated hard around the axles until the landing gear dug in and stopped it.

Amazingly, there is little visible damage. The front basement compartment door is binding slightly and some caulking separated up on the nose. The landing gear was torqued but seemed ok once we got the load on the truck and repositioned it. However, we're concerned there may be damage to the structure we can't see. Heading back to the factory after talking to insurance company this morning.

Not exactly a smooth 2nd trip.

Sorry to read about your RV being hit. I though I had bad luck somethings. Sure hope they don't find any hidden damage. You did not say how old your unit is. Sure hope all is well with the check up at the factory.

It's a brand new 2017. Picked it up in April.

That really sucks. Get something new and then crunch! Just about like parking your new vehicle in a parking lot only to come out and find it hit by something or someone. Once again, Good luck at the factory. Keep us posted on how things go.

That does really suck. With it being hit in the rear and the front basement door binding, I would be concerned about the frame twisting. Hope it all works out for you.

So, we took our rig back to the factory after the accident and Floyd, the service manager, gave it a once-over. Frame is still within spec and after the short drive the basement compartment door isn't binding any more. A factory tech checked the separated caulking seam (which also closed back up after the short drive), reinforced that area with a lag bolt, and recaulked it. No charge. We then drove 5 hours to our next stop and everything seems ok so far. The other driver's insurance has agreed to repair any damage that might become evident on our trip home. No-one was hurt. It could have been MUCH worse.

I can't say enough good things about the people at the Forest River factory (which is an interesting place): Deb and Floyd in particular were awesome.

One more twist to the story: while at Forest River with our banged up trailer this morning we received a fire alarm from our house and had to have the FD sent to check it. Talk about adding insult to injury! Turned out to be a false alarm. This has been the most misfortune-filled trip in our 18 years of camping...

Positive vibes your way, that is way too much excitement and drama !!!

Do you get to keep the toad if it rolls into your campsite ??? Maybe it was just looking for the CIA Parking Lot ???

Here's hoping for that winning lotto ticket for ya !!!
