Hooked battery up backwards

I hooked my battery up backwards and now I have no 12 v to the trailer. I check all of the fuses at the converter and they look fine. All of the fuses at the battery are fine. Does anyone know if there is an in-line fuse between the battery and the converter underneath the trailer in the belly ?pan.band

It's possible there's an inline fuse.

Year make and model?

Your converter should still put out 12v
Regardless of inline fuse to battery.

There's only a breaker in the fuse panel for converter.

Look in the files section on upper left hand of this page.
Look up your converter there's a detailed trouble shooting guide but most likely you fried your converter.
Don't feel bad it happens more than you think.

Do yourself a favor if it is bad replace your unit with a progressive dynamics if it isn't already. My guess it's a wfco brand currently installed.

The converter works perfect when plugged into 110v - I just have no 12v

About 25 years ago when I was a car stereo installer, I had a guy install one backwards and it reversed the polarity of the battery!!

Of course the battery did not work properly again either but the other batteries were not hurt.

I expected it to melt down the car but nothing happened to the car or the electronics.

Try a different battery maybe?

Just a thought have you tried to measure the battery wires for about 12-14 volts dc without a battery hooked up?

That should tell you if your converter is hosed.

There is most likely either an inline fuse or inline resettable breaker.
On MY TT it's fastened to the frame rail just behind the LP tanks underneath
the trailer.
You have a 5er so I don't know where you should look but start at your
battery and follow the large wire back from there.
A fuse or breaker is most likely fairly close to the battery.

Good Luck!

Most converters have two auto style fuses to protect against this Look on the end of the unit in a holder attached almost flush with the unit. Both fuses can blow or just the positive.

Under the cover of the power center, to the left of the circuit fuses are TWO Orange 40 amp "reverse connection" fuses. Their ONLY job is to blow if you hook up the battery backwards. They disconnect all 12 volt power to the camper to protect your electronics.

That is a "Good" feature!!

I guess RTFM comes into play here!!

No pun intended for the OP this is for myself!!

The 2 40s are not blown - I do not have any 12 v to the converter which leads me to believe there is a fuss somewhere in the belly pan .

Are you using a meter to test for voltage?

If there is a problem, test your + lead to the battery for a short to ground.

That does not seem likely though because the 40's are intact. Also as in a previous post check to see if you have positive voltage to the battery (with the converter on) terminals by using a DVM (digital volt meter) or analog if you have a working one.

One other thought did the negitive battery wire come disconected from the frame?

Also I would think that there would be no splice in the wire from the battery to the converter to fail unless there is a fuse or circuit breaker to protect it from a short.

BTW The pdf that Herk posted tells how to troubleshoot the no 12v problem and tells what voltage should be present at the terminals.

Here is some further help.

Another thing. There is a breaker between the battery and the converter located under a red cover located within 18 inches or so of the battery.

On a travel trailer it is located on the frame (looks like the photo) and it has a button on the side to reset it. (see photo of the current limiter).

There are two you need to check for a 5th wheel.
There is another under the pin box. (see that photo)
