Hot Water Heater Fill
All,
Quick question about filling the HWH. Do I open the by pass valve until the HWH is full and purged of air then close it? If I understand the system correctly, by pass is used to route water around the HWH for winterizing and would be shut during normal operations. Why open when filling? Thanks,

I keep the water heater by-pass closed. I just open the pressure relief valve. It allows the air to escape. I keep it open until water starts coming out. Just did it Monday evening after I rinsed my water heater out and cleaned the crud off of the anode rod.

I think I like your way better. I will forget about the by pass valve and spend to much of my time trying to figure out I forgot to close it. I prefer the kiss method when it comes to these things. Thanks,

George,
After connecting to city water, I open a faucet to purge the air out of the Cold Water Heater.

And I thought I was the only one picky about this sort of thing!
For those that haven't figured it out, it is not a HOT WATER HEATER. It is a COLD WATER HEATER!!!!!!! If the water was already hot it would not need heating!!

We do the same thing. After hooking up to water, I purge the system by opening a hot water faucet in the coach. I only use the bypass valve(pressure relief) to drain the tank faster when I remove the anode rod draining the tank for storage.

I see you don't live in Arizona in the summer. We have hot water coming out of the cold water faucet now. When it comes out cool we know it is winter time.

Ditto here... turn on the hot water faucet and watch it until a steady stream appears. Then I know my water heater is full. Then I turn it on if I need it.

Used the facuet method this afternoon and it worked just fine. I got cold water heated by a flame..... Will try the 110 VAC method tomorrow to make sure it works. Later,
