How Fast to Drive?
We've driven our TT's quite a while, now and don't like to go too fast and always leave plenty of stopping room behind other vehicles, especially in heavy traffic. (And always annoyed at how cars like to zip around me and get into that gap I keep...grrrr)
Our highway speed limit is 75 in Colorado but I usually keep it around 60 or maybe 65 if it's level or downhill. Sometimes other RVers blow by me at 80-90.
So I was wondering what speeds ya'll drive at? Do our tires really get extra hot at 75 versus 65?

I've learned the hard way to keep my speed limit not go above 60 mph (single axle tt).
And I'm the same, always like to keep plenty of space in front and is annoying when drivers think that space is for them.

Legally here in Ontario max is 62 mph (100 km/hr) so my max is 65 while towing. Mind a gap is always an issue in heavy traffic but just need to adjust and take it easy...

I usually run right at 65. That usually keeps me in line with the majority of traffic and prevents the line of traffic behind me.

Rick - I'm right there with you. Not out to prove (or test) the max speed, handling, and stopping abilities of my TV and TT. Just camping. If I did not have time to go on a trip safely, I would stay home.

I do around 60 no more than 65. The trip there and home is part of the adventure!

Travel speed is always dependent on weather, traffic and road conditions but never above 65mph.

ST tires are speed rated. I run LT on my camper. That being said I do about 65, more comfortable not having to weave in and out of traffic. It seems to be a happy medium with the flow of traffic. Traveling through the mountains what ever speed going up a little slower going down. Camping is a relaxation so relax.

My target is 62 mph but I'm good with anything between 60-65. Mpgs drop noticeably over 65 on mine.

I always kept it to 60mph when towing a camper...once I experienced a rear tire blowout on the TV while towing the camper, I had even MORE appreciation for traveling at 60 vs 75mph!

i prefer 65 but as stated its all depends on conditions. i am a completely different driver when driving my MH. i leave any aggressive drivers alone and if they cut me off oh well. i can't do anything about it. A blast of the horn only encourages the car driver to do something stupid. I try to drive with no ego but sometimes it's not easy. I tow a Jeep so my gross weight is around 33,000 lbs so stopping fast is not something I want to do. If you have seen a MH after an accident you know that its worth the extra time to be safe.

I usually run right around 65. On my way home from work the other day I saw a transport delivering a TT (not FR), I was doing right at 75, and he passed me!

Trailer tires are rated for 65 mp/h max (on a good day). I try to drive at or below 65 ish on a 4 lane and 60 ish on a 2 lane depending on road, weather and traffic conditions plus your getting the fuel economy of a Boeing 747 when you go faster.

Seams most talk of max posted speeds and who's exceeding it. I tend to look at the minimum posted speed, what gear I'm running in, and what mpg's I'm getting. This being said I'm a 53-55mph guy. I normally run 53 but I have seen minimum speed limits of 55. I see more traffic congestion in the left lane, weather I'm pulling or not, weather I'm at 70-80 or not. May the road all ways rise up to meet you....

I run the speed limit or at whatever speed I feel is safe, which ever is less... And never ever over 65. Confidence can be your own worst enemy, in my opinion.

The "sweet spot" for my truck towing seems to be the 75 mark, but I prefer to keep around 65 because of the trailer tire speed rating. I will hit 70-75 to complete a pass then back it down again. I was holding the 75 mark for an extended period on new tires and had a blow out, so my reasoning was yeah, they got too hot. Really, on a trip that 10 mph difference is gonna make what maybe 30 minute total difference on a 10 hour trip...to me, thats no big deal.
