How to secure recliners while traveling

We picked up our 2016 Rockwood 2604WS from dealer today. The dealer had recliners stacked one on top of the other. The recliners won't fit side by side with slide in. Does anyone have suggestions on best way to position and strap for travel. They did not travel well the way dealer had them. Thank you for your help.

You should be able to put one in front of the rear door and the other next to it, then strap them together.

We have just been putting the one in front of the other and the door with no problems.

It does explain why we have two doors though since the back door is useless once the chairs are setup for the slide to come in.

The one we have not figured out yet is how to keep the couch from popping out...

Don't know your floor plan, but in our 2013 Rockwood 5'er we stack the second recliner upside down on the sofa. The recliner arms are on the sofa with the back resting on the floor. It is secured in that position by straps anchored to the floor. It's a little awkward to maneuver BUT it stays put and that's the main thing. Good luck!

We have the same trailer. Assuming the chairs you have are the standard rockers and not a recliner of some kind, position one chair facing forward, tight against the rear and curb side of the trailer, position the other chair facing the rear of the trailer and tight against the rear and the other chair. Run one strap across the front of the first chair and the back of the second to keep them from sliding forward, and the other strap across the seats to hold them down. The slide will close and you can still use the rear door. Also we learned the hard way to make sure when extending the slide that the little table with the lamp does not catch on the slide.

We invert one chair upon the other so that the seat portions meet, shifted so that the arms 'nest' and strap them in. Haven't tried the other placements suggested.

Regarding the sofa - we had the same problem until our dealer showed us that there is a strap 'handle' in the center under the seat cushions. You have to lift up and push the seat back at the same time, fairly forcibly, until the seat locks in position. Before learning how to do this, we just purchased an inexpensive set of rubber door stop wedges and placed them under each of the sofa arms in the front and that seemed to work as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Not sure if our recliners will 'nest' together and if they do I might be concerned about the leather surfaces 'chaffing' together. Suppose you could always protect them with a piece of fabric (towel) while in transit. In any case I will look for the hidden strap in the sofa.

I have found that you have to be somewhat forceful as you push back on the seat while the seat is being lifted. Took us a few tries to get the feel of it. On ours at least it takes a more forceful push rearwards than I would have expected., but once you get the feel of it it's not bad. Our dealer says this is the fgirsdt year for this sofa, at least in 2604ws.You can check to see if it's locked by pushing / pulling a little on the back rest. If it's locked you should be able to tell. Good luck.

Thanks for clarifying. If this is the first year for that particular sofa then our 2013 won't have it. It's all good - recliners travel just fine secured the way we've been doing it. Happy trails!

Good info on the sofa (sorry about detouring thread...). I think I may now understand why sometimes it comes out and sometimes it does not. Have to go play with it.

Will also have to play with the chair positioning... would be very nice to be able to use that door with the slide in. Don't care much for going through a partially open bathroom door and it will save traffic on carpeting.

Might be too late for this suggestion. We have the 2604WS with the table and 4 chairs. I position the 2 chairs on the side of the table that faces the front of the RV so that the front legs are over the pedestal and tight up to the table. This allows room behind them for the other 2 chairs. Then I put 1 rocker between the table and sofa. Plenty of room at the rear for the other rocker and lamptable. No need to strap anything down.

We just received our 2017. The chairs are HUGE....and heavy! We cannot Figure any other way except to stack them. One chair will not fit in front of the refer. We have tried fitting both chairs side by side....no way.

The vinyl is very thin and was already scuffed from the factory. (They were stacked from the factory.)

This sucks because we bought this trailer after we had seen a 2016. Then we received the trailer with a different chair.

When you tilt the chairs over to stack them, the sharp edges on the feet of the bases dent the floor.

Good idea! Yours looks very nice. But our floor plan has the couch and fixed dinette.

Our chairs do not recline. They are gigantic swivel rockers.

They are very comfortable once set up. But they are extremely difficult to stack and unstack for travel....and the vinyl is delicate.
