Installing a fireplace to our 2014 8289 Rockwood

We ordered our new 8289 with every option but a fireplace. The heat in from the furnace in the living room area is not enough on chilly days, we camp a lot in the fall.
I have a portable heater but it's in the way and one breaker serves every outlet on that end of the camper so if the coffee maker is on and the heater it will trip.
My plan is to install the fireplace under the tv where it would be if we ordered it from the factory.
Does anyone know what model fireplace Forest River used?
What type of wire do I use that is needed for the slide out, flexibility?
Any advice would be great!

Congrats on the new unit, very nice. Your best bet is to contact FR Rockwood and ask them. They have always been helpful to myself. Be sure to ask about the face plate also, then search the internet. You could probably find it cheaper. I put one in a previous trailer. I was lucky the plug was on its own breaker. The only thing I had to do was rewire the cord as it was too short.

If they cant help you measure the inside dimensions and find an insert from a company like woodland direct (I don't remember the one I used). Good Luck post some pics if you do.

There are now so many choices of electric heater fireplaces. I looked at the measurements of my available space and then went online and found a good fit. You can either buy a faceplate or make one yourself from wood trim. Almost all of them are 15 amp/120v/1500 watts just like stand alone portable heaters.

Some of the fireplaces look more realistic than others, and you can view some of them on YouTube.

I also put in an external 15amp receptacle so that I can run a dedicated power line to the fireplace when multiple power receptacle sources (50amp/30amp/20amp) are available. I can also just plug it into a trailer's indoor receptacle if only 30amp shore power is available.

The only thing missing is the sound and smell of a crackling fire, but maybe that is available on some models!

I had a 8289 with a factory fireplace that worked great . You may also want to look at shutting down some of the heat that goes to the bedroom and bathroom . That was a great help with the heat in the living room .

Funny you mentioned closing off some of the heat to the to the bedroom and bathroom. The first trip out, it was in the 40s, we had the furnace running only a whisper of air was coming from the living room vents. The air flow to the bedroom and bathroom was ok but not that great either but you could not stand at the bathroom sink or you burned you feet.
The dealer added a deflector to both ducts, not as hot now but the air flow is still poor to all vents. I stated my concerns to the dealer but got nowhere.
I still feel that the Suburban blower fan has an issue. Other 8289 owners on the forum have had this problem too. I think the fan is too slow. I have taken it apart and found no issues with it.
I can only compare it to my previous camper, a 2006 Wildcat, that furnace would blow air like crazy.
It would help to compare another 8289 to mine. I am going to Minneapolis RV show I will talk to a couple other dealers about it.

I think a lot of heat loss is thru the light duty ( thin) hoses

One problem with the 8289 is that the furnace is under the bathroom . So the upstairs get the heat first and is the warmest .
