Installing screen door handles

Our Rockwood Ultra-Light 2608WS screen door only has a small black plastic loop on the inside of the camper to grab onto when closing just the screendoor. So we purchased the Camco Screen Door Crossbar. This attaches with four small screws to both sides of the screen door.

Has anyone attached this to their screen doors before? Will the small screws be enough to handle the abuse of opening and closing the screendoor? Not sure if there is any blocking within the screen door frame or not and just concerned that the screws may eventually pull out of the aluminum screen door frame.

Any thoughts?

I am now in my 4th season with mine and it has not loosened up at all. Works for me.

I just installed one yesterday. It's note made to lean on or play monkey bars it is pretty strong as mounted. I put mine just above the opening that you mentioned. Just follow the instructions. Very easy and looks nice. It is now easier to grab the bar to close the screen door. Later RJD

I purchased a flat 1" wide piece of aluminum from local hardware store. I attached that to door screen frame and then attached pushbar to that. I used short self tapping screws.

I used the screws provided. Is holding up well. But I don't use the bar to close the whole door apparatus and seal the latch when locking the door from inside. I thought it might be a little to much stress on it. I use it for another towel rack as well.

Have used this product on last rig and now on current rig. In both cases used supplied screws with no problem. Great addition.

The screen and main door on our Flagstaff hook together when closed, and swing as one unit.

After I installed the screen door handle we tended to shut the entire door/screen unit by grasping the new bar handle. We had to remember to manually unhook the outer door from the screen door to prevent the screen door handle from breaking off.

If you shut the door combo by using the new handle on the screen door, the factory handle will eventually fail. You are pulling the outer door closed via the new handle on the screen door, and putting too much force on the plastic screen door handle which connects to the outer door. Ask me how I know the factory will break !!

To prevent accidental handle breakage I fashioned an aluminum latch hook that holds the two doors together. Now we simply unhook the latch when the only screen door is being used, and keep it latched when we close the combo..

Installed one on our Flagstaff two years ago. Still as tight as the day I installed it. DW and I try remember that it is made of light materials, use it to push door open once the door is unlatched to leave the tt. Probably saved the screen in the long run!

Lots better than paying for replacement door handles, as we did 2x.
Love the screen door bar handle addition now.
