Interesting find

Went to pick up our TT from storage yesterday and found a rather large bird nest in the front storage compartment tray.

No damage, no droppings, no bird.

I am curious to know how it got in there. We were last out over the the 4th of July weekend.

Any 8296 or 8315 owners want to speculate?

I typically find a nest somewhere in mine in spring. Usually a house wren will build somewhere they are protected. In your case they have raised the young and left. What is unusual is where you found it. That means you have an opening somewhere large enough for a small bird to enter. Take a good look around the area for a small hole. It has to be somewhere. If the bird can get in, so can water, depending on where the hole is.

Just got done looking around in that space. There is nothing open to the outside, and no other evidence.

I suspect someone played a prank with their 751 key.

Well, while pranks can be funny ( I do a few myself), it tells me that maybe you should change your lock to get rid of the 751 key. The next guy passing through might decide to relieve you of some of your stuff.

It should be easy to tell if the nest was built there or placed there. You sure it wasn't put there during your last trip? Stranger things have happened.

Naw, I'm convinced that someone played a prank in the storage lot. We put the TT away on July 9th, found it on July 25th.

I went over the TT again and found nothing.

There is a solution, relocate to our own property at the end of next month. Nuff said. And change the locks as Kim suggested.

Anyone have a good line on new locks for storage? I would be interested in this myself...

Although I have had a trailer broken into once. They did not use a 751 key... They just took a screwdriver and pried it open. The cam on the locks bent all to easy.

Are you certain it was a BIRD"S nest. Mice and other rodents make a peculiarly similar nest. Mice droppings are easily overlooked and mice can be good neighbors - leaving little in the way of damage. They squeeze into any warm spot thru openings larger than 1/4 inch and scrounge for fuzzy warm fibers to build with - chewing up pillows and blankets. That's where that strange hole in the sleeping bag came from.

And they will chew through dry wall. Last winter I had a mouse get up behind the wall to the pantry in my house and parked his/her self on top of the receptacle box and chew a hole in the wall big enough to let there family in so they could feast on my goodies, needless to say that was there last dining experience in my house.

FYI, just in case for those who don't know, mice are flea carriers. If you are a pet owner there is a good chance they could get them, SO BEWARE !!
