It's official, new 8314SS ordered...

Signed papers today to purchase a new 8314SS...went with RVW, locals unable to come close to their price.

Hoping to contribute more to this board in the coming months/years....it has been a great source of knowledge/information to-date.

Congrats on the purchase.
Exactly the reason why you bought from RVW is the exact reason why so many local dealers just cant hang on in this economy. Nothing against you personally understand. I dont blame you for shopping around to get the best price. We all do. If only the dealers would understand this and be more competitive , they might stand a chance.
Also, if the manufactureres allowed more then one dealer in an area to sell a specific model, then there would be a lot more competition in pricing the units.
When I bought mine, i originally looked at Rockwood. There of course is just one rockwood dealer here in my area. However after doing a little research I found flagstaff and realized they have the exact same floor plans. I called the flagstaff dealer and told them what I wanted and told them to beat the Rockwood price and they had a sale.
3 hours later, the guy called back with a price of $3000 less, more on my trade in, and ordered mine directly from the factory with every option i wanted.
I basically begged the rockwood dealer to take another $3000 off the day i went there and he just wouldnt do it , so Lost sale for him, gained for flagstaff.
These companies are putting themselves out of business by having been greedy for too long and I think they are now getting what they deserve. I do feel bad for the employees that get laid off when they close, but the company itself deserves everything they get.

I see your point with dealers spread all over selling the same brand, it makes it hard to wheel and deal. While at the RV show in MD a Jayco dealer told me that Rockwood sells more of there campers In MD then in any other state, I don't know how true it is but if that's the case then maybe one can do some wheeling and dealing here. I don't know how many dealers in MD sell Rockwoods but I guess it's not too hard to fine out, Like it was stated before, once info gets on the internet it speads like wild fire.

It's unfortunate I couldn't work out something in our local economy, but we only have one local (30-45 mins) Flagstaff dealer, all the other Flagstaff/Rockwood dealers are within 2-3 hrs away, but none were able/willing to compete.

Certainly would have been a shorter drive to pick it up.

Congrads on purchase of the 8314SS. It was our first choice but we wanted to buy locally. (The price from RVW gives a basis for negotiation.) After a big hassle, the only dealer just would not accept the reasonable offer we presented him. I wanted him to make a profit, just a reasonable profit. As a result we ended up with a Jayco 29D (very similar floor plan). We're very happy with the Jayco, it's a very nice and well made t.t. We're grateful there was a local dealer willing to accept a sensible business deal.

After different setbacks, we are finally headed to Ohio on Thursday for a Friday pickup. 70% chance of rain on Friday. Guess we'll see if she leaks!

Spending the night locally (Wapakoneta) in case there are any major discoveries, otherwise heading back to Fla on Saturday, with an overnight in Cullman AL.
