Ladder is good for 300 lbs, so make sure all is tight so there is no movement of bikes during travel.........

The clamp on the Atwood Rack just doesn't look solid to me. I found this ladder rack at etrailer. It's weight capacity is 75 lbs. I have two mountain bikes and even though I have not weighed either of them, I'm pretty sure they don't exceed 40 lbs. combined. There is also a Youtube video on this ladder rack. It looks pretty good. Cost $85. What is FR charging for the Atwood?

I found this Surco rack even less expensive at AdvertureRV.net - $70. I ordered one. It looks great. I'll provide feedback after use.

Surco RV Camper Ladder Mounted Bike Bicycle Rack - $69.56

Unless you bought expensive lightweights made of aluminum or something, I think you'll be surprised at what your bikes weigh. Wife and I have Diamondback mountain bikes. Mine's 28 lbs and hers is 30 lbs.

Thanks...I would not have thought that much. I'll try to get a weight on them tonight. We have two Trek bikes.

Thanks for sharing! We like the looks of this rack as well. I was fortunate to find one on Amazon Warehouse deals for $61 and with it being Prime Day they took and additional $9 off = $55 (including tax) and free shipping!

Thanks again!

P.s., I contacted Forest River today about purchasing the Atwood bike rack. I'll post their cost when they get back with me.

The only other place I saw the Atwood for sale was Parts for my RV $95.70;

The 8327ss we bought used had a receiver hitch clamped to the rear bumper. Since I already had a receiver hitch bike rack (4 bike model) I opted to use that. I had 2 adult bikes, 1 kid bike, and a bike trailer on it. 200 miles into our 1500 mile trip I got flagged down by a semi behind us. We lost one of our sewer hoses out of the bumper due to the weight flexing the bumper and the end cap fell off. I do plan on welding a heavier duty square tube between the frame rails underneath the factory bumper to mount the receiver hitch to. Hopefully I get to that in the next couple weeks. Just a word of advice do not mount it to the factory bumper like forest river advises.

Regarded the Atwood Bike Rack (shown as an optional accessory from Forest River), below is the message I received from their sales department;

The bike rack you are interested in is $150.00. We do have them available here. Our shipping department is about 10 business days out right now. Please let me know if you would like me to place an order for you.

Got curious, found this site offering the Attwood for a lower price - $85.89 not including shipping - didn't go that far. Amazon didn't bring up an Attwood.

Great Price on the Surco Rack. FR selling the Atwood is just too expensive @ $150. My new rack showed up at my door yesterday. Took out of the box and it appears well made....in the USA!. I'm going out to the TT on Saturday to install.

Installed the Surco Ladder Bike Rack today. Easy install. I am glad I brought the bikes along to test though, because the spare tire had to be moved off center. Each rack mount attached to the ladder in two locations and each rested on one of the stairs for added support. I did not test on the road yet, but will in a couple of weeks. It feels solid. Here are some pics.

Arrived at rv park and no issues with the bike rack. I was able to see the seat if my bike through the mirror all the way. Right now the DW and I are picnicking and getting ready for a bike ride in Black Rock My mountain State park, GA. I'll give a final review after trip completion tomorrow night.

Well little did I know....there is no biking on any trails in this state park. And for any brave person who wants to try and climb Black Rock Mountain with a 35 foot trailer in tow.....well you are a brave person. I did not try it. Stayed in an RV park down below. It would be an historic climb though. Incredible climb. Narrow lanes and sharp turns all the way up.
