So is the 3528 the number we're looking for as the correct model? Or is it something else, if you know.

I don't know which one exactly replaces the existing one, as I haven't had to replace mine yet. I have worked with a few different strips running lights in the back yard and on the house and can say they are extremely easy to work with and very flexible, as well as cut to length.

See the discussion about generic/replacement LED strips here--
My solution to awning lights

FYI, here is a link to the one's I bought--
5M Roll 3528 SMD Waterproof 60 LEDs/M 300 LEDs Warm Cool White Red Green Blue Yellow RGB Flexible LED Strip Light Free Shipping-in LED Strips from Lights & Lighting on Aliexpress.com

$8.75 per roll, including shipping from China. Typically takes about 3 weeks
to arrive US via USPS signature required mail.
They ship to Canada also.
These are 5 meters/16.4 feet long with 300 leds per set.
They can be cut into shorter length but I'm gonna guess you only can
get 2 usable pieces if you cut them as there are connections wired on
each end. If you cut more than 2 pieces you have a center piece with
no connection pigtails.
No controller needed for single color.
I have ordered several items thru this "china version of ebay" and have
had no problems.
YMMV.

Where are these awning lights located? Are they in the part that is attached to the trailer, or are they in the part of the awning that is extended, meaning further away from the trailer. Just curious, cause we have a new 8289 diamond package on order, and didn't know anything about the awning lights. Has peeked my curiosity now.

They are mounted on the wall of the RV just under the awning
