Lost Our 4-legged Camping Buddy

Our old chihuahua, whose battled kidney stones all his life (last operation was 7 years ago) had to be put down today.
He's been on every camping trip the past five years and we were glad he went on the one earlier this month.
We will miss our Rome-Rome (Romeo) but blessed to have such a great dog...we were right with him when the vet gave that last shot.Click image for larger version

So sorry Rick. We had to put our dog down yesterday. We still are waiting for her to be here when we come home.

Pretty amazing how large a part of the family our pets become.

We get to know their moods, their facial expressions, their preferences.

When health issues mean it's time to part, it's so darn sad.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I'm hopeful that in Heaven...we get ALL of our dog's back.

Yes, the hope of Glory, Christ in us! While I know the Bible doesn't say anything about animals having eternal souls like people, I do know a Creator who will be asked (by me) to make an exact copy of my beloved pets on the other side. (Minus the corruption and curses, of course.)

Sorry to hear that. Our condolences to you and your family, and to your other furby members.

We get so attached to our Furby families, love them to pieces and receive endless, unconditional love in return. We too lost our camping companion of 6 years ( 100 lb. American Bulldog ) this past month. He is greatly missed.

Although, we have a camping newby already in training. Miss Mya, 50 lb. Staffy. She is doing great, but has a lot of ENERGY! LOL.

I can certainly understand your loss, as I just had to do the same about an hour ago to our dog who we've had for 15 years. I didn't think it would bother me near as much as it actually did.

My sincerest condolences.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your friend. We're trading our old RV this week, and the hardest part is all the memories of our Dary and Kali, who enjoyed so many trips in that rig and who are no longer with us. Peace and happy memories to you and your family.

So sorry for your loss. We might be facing the same thing shortly with our camping buddy and I am dreading it. He has been sick the past year and now is not able to stand up or walk very well so I don't know how things will go with camping this summer. When we first started camping in our pop-up 6 years ago, he took to it like he had done it his whole life. He would know when we were going camping when we would be taking stuff out to load in the camper. He would sit in front of the door as we came in and out so that we would not forget him

Sorry

It is so hard when we lose a furbaby. They become part of the family and it is so hard to say goodbye to them when they cross the Rainbow Bridge but I believe that we will see them all again in the next chapter of our lives. So sorry for your loss.

I use one of my dogs as a therapy dog and this poem is on the back of the little cards that I give to the residents of the nursing homes that we visit.

God Made A Dog

And on the 9th Day God looked down on his wide eyed children and said they need a companion...So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody to wake up and give kisses, pee on a tree, sleep all day, wake up again, give more kisses, and then stay up till midnight basking in the glow of the television set.....So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody willing to sit, then stay, then roll over then with no ego or complaint dress in hats they do not need and costumes they do not understand. I need somebody who can break wind without a first thought or second thought. Who can chase tails, sniff crotches, fetch sticks and lift spirits with a lick. Somebody no matter what you didn’t do, or couldn’t take, or didn’t win, or couldn’t make will love you without judgment just the same.....So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody strong enough to pull sleds and find bombs, yet gentle enough to love babies and lead the blind. Somebody who will spend all day on a couch with the resting head and supportive eyes to lift the spirits of a broken heart....So God made a Dog

It had to be somebody who would remain patient and loyal even thru loneliness. Somebody to care, cuddle, snuggle and nuzzle, and cheer and charm and snore and slobber and eat the trash and chase the squirrels. Somebody who would bring a family together with selflessness of an open heart. Somebody who would bark, and then pant, and then reply with the rapid wag of tail when their best friend says lets go for a ride in the car.
...So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody who would stand at your side when the world around you collapses. Somebody to lie next to you during the long nights of pain and sorrow when it hurts to move, or talk, or think, or be. Somebody to stand guard, play games, snore for hours, and repeat as needed. Somebody to give you strength when you have none of your own. Somebody to fight when you have no fight left, to hold onto your soul as if it were their favorite toy, playing tug of war to keep you in this world. Somebody to be your companion and guide in this world and the next. Somebody to wait for you on the other side or stand guard in your absence until they can join you for eternity....So God made a Dog
