I have a 2009 chevy 2500hd 6.0 6 speed and tow a 8500 lbs TT. Your gonna know its back there for sure and the trucks gonna work hard. I towed mine thru the hills of KY. and it did fine.
That said I would not feel good about taking my 8.5k unit in high elevation mountain towing.

If ya do tow it there, let me know how the truck does.

It is going too tow the load just fine. Only issue is plan your fuel stops every 300 miles or so. Yes you will get more but not a lot more so plan and be prepared.

JKenney, I have a '13 2500 Savanna 6.0L 6 speed. I pull a 8327SS. You will definitely know it is back there, but it will tow it comfortably. We took it through the Smokies last summer and it was adequate. I stayed in the right hand lane with the semi trucks on those long 6 - 7% uphill grades, RPM's up around 3000, 98 degrees out, and kept up with them. So, yes the 6.0 worked hard but did the job. Flat land towing it is a solid, drama free drivetrain that works VERY well. Hope this helps!
