need second opinion

im looking to buy my first rv trailer. i have kicked a few tires and the two i have narrowed it down to is the rockwood 2104s mini lite and the 2109 windjammer. i like the side slide of the mini lite and how open it makes the inside but i also like the outside design of the windjammer and the front bathroom. the mini lite is about 3700 lb and i can easily pull it with my truck, even my wife truck if i had too. the windjammer is closer to 5000 lb and would strain her truck more then i would care for. not sure where the better money would be spent, thanks for any help

I would suggest the 2104. If you're maxing out your tow capacity you will quickly be spending needless money on repairs. That's just my 2 cents.

check out the Micro Lite by flagstaff there lite and built better.

The windjammer isnt a 2109 its a 2102 and it wouldn max out my truck just my wife truck. The only time i would use her truck to tow it would be in a emergency situation. She has a 2013 toyota tacoma 4x2 with the bigger v6

By a 5th wheel, overload your TV and you can get a jump start on the ineviatble cycle of

1) Buy small TT
2) Want bigger TT (most likley within a few trips)
3) Sell current TV
4) Buy bigger TV
5) Sell TT
6) Buy 5th wheel camper

Buy jumping right into the deep end you can skip steps 1,2 and 5

Hahaha... We Blew through steps 1 through 5 in the last 11 months! Currently waiting on our new unit.

Mini Lite Travel Trailer by Forest River

Well, What I like about the WJ is the nice big bathroom, lots of storage, you can sleep more folks and it is longer, although there is no slide (per se, just the bed) and that's huge. Plus if there's more outside storage that's good.

What I like better about the mini lite is the slide out (makes it feel larger than it is) and if there are potential mobility issues climbing up into the bed in the wj the mini will suit you longer. How many do you need to sleep? The WJ seems to sleep more although you could always throw down some air mattresses. It seems to have less storage, but you don't have to slide out the bed to use the camper.

It really comes down to # of people and use. Good luck

Just for funzies, we did steps 1-6 then the class C, and now we're downsizing into the Roo I knew we shouldn't have skipped the pop up stage

I guess the question boils down to a couple of things. what floor plan do both you and your wife like better? Also how close to the max abilities of the primary tow Vehicle is the trailer you like better? (remember this question is about more than just my tow vehicle is rated to tow x lbs).


one of the best things you can do is to go sit in both rigs and imagine yourselves using them. Think about where you will put things (ie DW clothes in this cabinet, dishes in that cabinet, chairs in that compartment etc). Act out daily activities (ie DW cooks you move about doing things, try out bathroom for size etc). Think about tank sizes and cargo capacity. Does the one you like have enough of each for your liking?


As for the steps, we started with a larger TT and not enough TV. We now have a bigger tow vehicle, want the 5er but will actually need a bigger TV for the 5er we want. Znot too sure where that puts us on the list.

Spend your time and dollars on what's important as far as floorplan and other stuff mentioned in post above rather than what it looks like on the outside.

Dave I read a lot of problems with Rock Wood models but not Flagstaff on this forum not meaning there isn't any. I think Flagstaff is build better

Bill, not trying to argue but they are the same trailers, built with the same exact materials, on the same assembly line, with the same exact floorplans and equipment.

the only differences are the outside decals and that there are way more Rockwood dealers nationwide than there are Flagstaff dealers. therefore they sell a lot more Rockwoods than Flagstaffs.

It is just my wife and i with two very spoiled dog. I think the mini would allow more room for the two dog beds.i guess my biggest question is is there a big difference in quality between the mini and the windjammer. I know they are the same builder just wasnt sure if one was a upgrade over the other

The Mini looks huge inside for its size. That would be my pick. The walk around bed is nice as opposed to shuffling out the foot of the bed. The Mini is much lighter (1250#) and really - how much time would you be spending in the bathroom?
