New 2019 "theater seating-couch" in 2509s and other "new" options for 2019

Hello all,

I have had a 2012 Mini Lite 2306 for the last 3 years and loved it. But the kids are getting bigger, so we need to upgrade. My question is what is your opinion of the new theater seating style couch? I have not seen one in person, so Im asking for anybody's help that has one of these couches. Is it a well built design? Comfortable to use?
The other question was the outdoor Capitol cook top/grill- Whats your opinion on it? Is it a good cook top or grill?
Lastly- How do you guys like the Morryde steps they are now using in the Mini Lites? It looks like a pretty cool design, but how is it working for you?

Please feel free to chime in on any of the new features, But Im really interested in any information on the theater style couch- is it holding up?Comfy? etc -seems kinda flimsy in the videos I have seen online.

Thanks in advance!!

We have an early '19 2509S, with the couch w/ foldout footrest. It sits fairly well, but doesn't recline, so you're kinda upright in it. Padding is OK, but could be a bit thicker (same with the dinette benches). Overall, though, we're satisfied.

Can't comment on the outdoor grille, as we haven't used it yet. And ours came out before the addition of the Mor/ryde steps. (DANG!)

Our's is listed as a '19 but doesn't have the new grill or steps. I would really love having the new steps but am not a fan of the outside kitchen changes. I like having an outside sink and have heard negative things about the grill.

As far as the couch is concerned, ours has held up very well so far. We put over 4k miles on the trailer this summer, so the couch had gotten a lot of use. The foot rests work fine, even though it's not a true "recliner." Everything seems to be well built. It's nice to have a comfortable place to sit, other than the dinette. We just really love having the murphy bed/couch combo in a trailer that's easy to tow with a 1/2 ton truck.

MR- Thanks for the reply.
Glad to hear its a nice couch. Me and the kids tend to curl up on the couch and its a tight fit to say the least(we are small people, so that helps.lol) I'm not so sure the Morryde steps would be great in some of the situations we get into. Sometimes there isnt enough room to pull down that 3 or 4ft long Morryde assembly. Like when ur pulled off on the side of the road, or in a tight campsite. Dunno, just wasnt sure about them, but they look cool and I like the lift assist feature. btw: how does the Tundra tow the 2509S? I would expect just fine?

Have a great weekend!

TJ- Thanks for the input on the couch. Its one of the only reasons Im looking at a newer model instead of a 17-18 model.
I'm not a big fan of the outdoor kitchen myself. We mostly camp without hookups, so water is always pumped in out of 5 gallon jugs-dont need an extra sink-in fact this trailer has never been in a hook up site. lol.
I have also heard negative things about the new grill-way under-powered etc. I would probably remove the outdoor kitchen completely and make it a large storage space. I also thought about removing the grill and customizing it to accommodate my small Blackstone griddle. Love that thing!
Anyway, looking forward to getting yet another rv to mod.

The Tundra does fine. Mind you, we know it's back there, and we're not going to set any records for the quarter mile , but the matchup suits me OK. On the trip from Townsend down to Gadsden for BamaGanza this week, we managed between 10 and 11 mpg, running at 55-60, so no complaints there, either.

Oh, and definitely get a weight distributing hitch and sway control bar.

We have a 2019 Ĺ 2509s, we ordered in the blind early June. Iíve been following the model since it was brought online and we finally pulled the trigger, we had rented previously. We love our trailer, the DW didnít want this trailer initially, but after doing much search she came to the realization that this was the best set up for our family. Recently Rockwood unveiled the Ultra Lite 2781, in my view this is as close to the perfect 5th wheel as it gets. My wife was concerned about the interior room of the 2509s, after 20+ nights in it and seeing the 5th wheel she says she rather be on the 2509. That is has exceeded all of her expectations and she likes it, we are heading out for a week and half this next week. I made this post a little while ago, so Iíll post it here again. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Over the last year we focused on narrowing our search and for me the 2509 was the trailer, the wife wanted a larger trailer and a permanent bed rather than the Murphy bed. Our choices were narrowed between the rockwoodís 2509, 2706 and the grand design 2400. In my view when truly paying attention the Rockwood was a better built trailer. Anyhow, since it seems like you have been looking at the 2509 prior to the mid year changes let me tell you what the changes have been as I am very familiar with the different models. I donít have pictures but you can go to Rv trader, put a search for the 2509 and sort by recent, that will give you the new ones hitting the lot.

Outside.

For 2019 you will keep the oversized rack on the toungue that makes a great battery rack + storage, very easy to fit 3 or maybe 4 12v batteries and easily 2 6v batteries.

The accent colors changed to a darker brown almost black and no vertical stripes alongside of the windshield. Better look in my eyes.

Curb side, the steps have been replaced by a style similar to the moryde but these are made by LCI, great improvement. The gas grill LP port has been taken off the wall and placed on the frame, I prefer where it was but itís easier to hook up this way. The outdoor kitchen has been changed completely, now it has a capital grill instead of the two burner top. It burns well. The sink initially left us thinking it was a loss but the spray port provided next to the outdoor kitchen is more versitale. Less water in the 30 gal grey tank, less food in the plumbing, easier to add water to the dog bowls and really rinse your hands. The hose provided is long enough that you can drape it over the spare tire and wash your hands behind the trailer if need to be. After this weekend we have to say that we are happy with the change. You also get storage above the capital grill now. Tail lights changed to brighter LED.

Interior. Two color options for 2019.5. We went with the chocolate/maple and it looks better than those in years prior. The Murphy bed received a headboard, previously you would have to fight to keep the pillows in the bed, now it serves as a shelf and itís so tight against the mattress you wonít even lose your change. Major improvement, it also makes the mattress feel larger as you can get closer to the ledge with the pillows. I am 6í1 and my feet donít dangle off the end. There was an electrical outlet on the left side (when looking out the windshield) of the nightstand, it has been relocated to the head of the board to make it easier to plug in the heated mattress and also charge electronic that one places on the headboard. The doors for the water heater and filter access can now be opened but there is a false wall behind them, improvement for maintenance. The sink is stainless steel with a two part cover. The over is superior looking, we order without but weíre told that the oven is no longer an option but rather mandatory. The drawer hardware has been changed and the handles accent the trailer well. The tub received a shower mister, check spelling but is bypass for when good docking, it tells you when hot water has arrived so you donít waste water and fill the grey tank. Back to the Murphy bed the wardrobes have been extended all the way down to the nightstand and a drawer has been added to the bottom. The cushions on the couch seem to have gone to a softer version. The 2017 were too soft, in 2018 were rock hard but for 2019 they seem to be a good compromise.

These are all the changes I could think of, the capital grill is easy to clean, the one provided by the factory that attaches to the wall isnít the greatest but it does the trick, itís a pain in the ass to clean. I prefer the current setup and have been pleased with the changes made to the trailer. I got to see it as it arrived from the factory and it didnít disappoint, yes it wasnít shine up but it arrived all systems go and good workmanship. We tested everything during the PDI and this weekend and so far so good. I am very picky and detail oriented with high expectations, so far the trailer has met them and we are very pleased with it so far. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I hated the capital grill and wanted the outdoor sink so I took out the grill and added a sink and 2 burner cooktop and couldn’t be happier with it.

x2 on having an early 2019; We think the couch is very comfortable with the footrests up even though the backs don't recline. Also new for '19 was the sofas having a tufted back which looks nicer and is also comfortable. I believe, also, the microfiber fabric for the couch and dinette are more recent additions and they are wonderful. Very soft and easy to clean - one of the 2018s we looked at had a linen type fabric couch and it seemed like it would take more work to maintain. Love the microfiber. The newer '19s also no longer have patterned fabric inset into the dining seat cushions. Personal choice, but I like the added detail.

We have not used our outside grill, probably won't, and we do not have the new steps. However, while mine was in for detailing I looked at a '19 models with the new steps. They definitely feel more solid on the ground but going in and out of the RVs I kept hitting my toe on the back of the top step. First time it happened I tripped, falling into the camper. After that I was more careful but I immediately thought of any visitors needing to be warned.

I don't have the new grill so I can't comment on its quality. However the bumper grill we had on our Shamrock was a POS. I bought Weber Q and couldn't be happier. Almost as good as my Weber at home.
So my current setup is a 2 burner cooktop in the outside kitchen and the Weber on a small table. The table is big enough to allow for some prep but still folds up pretty small.
No sink. No problem to me
